More About the Author

Author Tim B. Ward never thought he would be a writer. A 2003 graduate of the University of Delaware with a degree in Food Science and Technology, Tim had always planned to work in a lab, and was more than happy working in research and development for the flavor industry. His plans were brought to a hault in 2007 when he was diagnosed with a Grade II Astrocytoma brain tumor in his right parietal lobe. Stunned by the diagnosis, Tim felt crushed and hopeless. His fight was not easy, but he and his doctors took the fight to the tumor. Through the fight, Tim nearly died numerous times, and was left with partial epilepsy. Now, proudly in remission, Tim spends his time trying to help those struggling, whether it be physical struggles like epilepsy or brain cancer, or emotional struggles.

Tim's first book, "Surviving and Thriving: A Brain Tumor Survivor's Story," details vividly his story of the war he had with forces in his own body. Dark images are laid out that describe his bitterness and depression, all while struggling with his faith. It is only when he discovers purpose and a want for life that he accepts and strives for a better future.

5.0 out of 5 stars Near and dear..., July 7, 2010

Ok so first off, I may be a little biased in my review. If you read Tim's book and see the name "Paugh" mentioned, that's me. Tim is one of my best and closest friends and has been for the better part of the last 10 years. I knew a lot of what Tim was going through, and when he told his group of friends he was writing a book I knew deep-down it would end up published. I've been looking forward to reading it ever since.

"Surviving and Thriving" begins with Tim's diagnosis of a brain tumor, and chronicles his treaments along with his physical and emotional struggles. Tim goes into vivid detail in his writing, even when describing his darkest points. Some parts were difficult for me to read, even things I knew were going to happen, as they were from Tim's point of view. I would assume it was extremely difficult to revisit these events and memories, but Tim does so in order to convey the ultimate message he's trying to get across with this book. All in all, he nails it. Like I said before, I may be biased, but I would find it hard for anyone to read this book and not shed a tear for, or with, the author.

Tim went to hell and back to get through this ordeal, and now he's taken it upon himself to share his story to not only those who may be interested in it, but those who NEED to read it. There may be someone you know dealing with a similar plight, and reading someone's first-hand account of going through the highest of highs and lowest of lows may be what drives them to fight the way that Tim did.

"Surviving and Thriving: A Brain Tumor Survivor's Story" is an excellently written book by my friend, Tim B. Ward. It's a great first-hand account of dealing with the crappy hand that life sometimes deals us, but eventually finding a way to make the most with what you started with, found along the way, and gained in the end.

Great job Tim! HCW4L!

I have always loved and respected Tim as a very strong, intelligent young manI was aware of some othe things he was going through, but not all. The book he has written is amust read for people young and old.I have suggested as a summer read to all my teen grandchildren. Also to all friends and family.

The book to me means never give up. Keep fighting which is what Tim has done.
I am so very proud of him.
