This review is from: Surviving and Thriving: A Brain Tumor Survivor's Story (Paperback)
Ok so first off, I may be a little biased in my review. If you read Tim's book and see the name "Paugh" mentioned, that's me. Tim is one of my best and closest friends and has been for the better part of the last 10 years. I knew a lot of what Tim was going through, and when he told his group of friends he was writing a book I knew deep-down it would end up published. I've been looking forward to reading it ever since.
"Surviving and Thriving" begins with Tim's diagnosis of a brain tumor, and chronicles his treaments along with his physical and emotional struggles. Tim goes into vivid detail in his writing, even when describing his darkest points. Some parts were difficult for me to read, even things I knew were going to happen, as they were from Tim's point of view. I would assume it was extremely difficult to revisit these events and memories, but Tim does so in order to convey the ultimate message he's trying to get across with this book. All in all, he nails it. Like I said before, I may be biased, but I would find it hard for anyone to read this book and not shed a tear for, or with, the author. Tim went to hell and back to get through this ordeal, and now he's taken it upon himself to share his story to not only those who may be interested in it, but those who NEED to read it. There may be someone you know dealing with a similar plight, and reading someone's first-hand account of going through the highest of highs and lowest of lows may be what drives them to fight the way that Tim did. "Surviving and Thriving: A Brain Tumor Survivor's Story" is an excellently written book by my friend, Tim B. Ward. It's a great first-hand account of dealing with the crappy hand that life sometimes deals us, but eventually finding a way to make the most with what you started with, found along the way, and gained in the end. Great job Tim! HCW4L!

A great read. Tim gives a very detailed account of the trials that he went through and how he overcomes it after a very hard fight with many setbacks.

I have always loved and respected Tim as a very strong, intelligent young manI was aware of some othe things he was going through, but not all. The book he has written is amust read for people young and old.I have suggested as a summer read to all my teen grandchildren. Also to all friends and family.
The book to me means never give up. Keep fighting which is what Tim has done. I am so very proud of him.

I met Tim through our friend Jason (review above) so my review will be a bit partial as well. In reading the book my heart broke all over again for Tim. I knew things were bad throughout his battle but reading it from his point of view was so hard. I remember seeing Tim at our wedding ceremony and thinking how bad he looked. In reading the book I realized it was only 1 month into his treatment, and no where near the worse of it. The dark path he went down is beautifully documented in this book in hopes of helping others.
I had to read the book in one night. I know that Tim is "surviving and Thriving" but couldn't go to sleep until I read the ending. Tim, you are an amazing person. I'm proud to know you and call you my friend!

An honest account of Astroctoma,

This review is from: Surviving and Thriving: A Brain Tumor Survivor's Story (Paperback)
An open and honest account of one young man's struggle with Astroctoma (grade 2 glioma). For much of the book Tim struggles with seizures, depression, anger against God, and then in the last few pages something astounding happens, which makes this book worth reading for anyone dealing with any grade of brain tumour.

An Eye Opener,
This review is from: Surviving and Thriving: A Brain Tumor Survivor's Story (Paperback)
I'm currently in the process of reading this book, but i can say so far, that it's a very descriptive and eye opening as to what the author is going through, how he is feeling and his take on everything that is going on around him is so detailed that you can get a complete visual of whats going on.
I've known Tim for the greater part of the past decade, he is always fun to be around, and always seems to light up the room when he walks in it. I feel truely honored to know such a great person, with such personal strength. It makes me believe that anything is possible, no matter what hand we are given.

I have read Tim Ward's book twice. I identified with him a lot. First, I have brain cancer. I have epilepsy (was diagnosed with it when I was 7). I had a spinal tap when I was young (about 16), so I knew exactly what he was going through with the spinal headaches. We both have the same birthday -- June 23. When I was halfway through reading his book the first time, I learned that he died. My heart goes out to his family.I know that they miss him, but they have to be awfully proud of him.
