Product Description

Color: Black/Black

Ridiculously over-engineered Or the perfect case no matter where you are headed We think it is a little bit of both. Simply put, Survivor is the most protective case we have ever built. Designed and tested to meet or exceed US Department of Defense Standard 810F, Griffins Survivor Extreme-Duty Case is built from the inside out to protect your iPhone from extreme conditions ... dirt, sand, rain, shock, vibration and a host of other environmental factors. Survivor is built on a shatter-resistant polycarbonate frame clad in rugged, shock-absorbing silicone. A built-in screen protector seals your Multi-Touch display from the outside environment, while hinged plugs seal the dock connector, headphone port, hold switch and volume controls. A detachable heavy-duty clip secures your iPhone to a belt or bag strap.

I picked up several of these cases for the Iphone 5C's that I support at work. The case is pretty bulky but that's a good thing I work with construction guys who get pissed and throw their phones all the time. so far so good. No broken iphones have come back my way yet.

Edit:10/30/2013
after a couple weeks users have reported problems with being able to hear it seems that there is a little fabric piece where the ear speaker is & people sound muffled to them on the construction site. I've since instructed my users to cut that piece out with a razor blade. I know this leads to more grime getting in there but usability is more important & I'm more concerned about the phone getting broken by being dropped which the case will continue to protect the phone just fine.

The Griffin Survivor case is a tank, and I have no doubt that my phone is very well protected. If that's all you're looking for, then you'll be very happy. But if you also want to use the phone, you'll run into some problems. The protective mesh around the voice receiver, designed to keep stuff from getting into the phone, works entirely too well--it doesn't let any sound through!! When I call people they tell me I sound like one of the adults on the Charlie Brown TV specials: a faint, muffled "Wawawa wawawa, wawa." This is a very serious design flaw. Another weakness is that the belt clip is designed for the thinnest and most dainty of belts, which doesn't seem to fit the image of a rough and tough case made for military settings and construction sites--people like that wear thick, heavy-duty belts. Also when you take the phone off the clip, it invariably snaps the screen protector off--not a good thing. Pretty disappointing for the cost and hype. Not recommended.

Three week update: Worse than I thought. The rubber around the access points is very thin and tears easily. I have to say this is one of the sorriest pieces of junk I have ever bought.

Fits the phone perfectly--nice and snug. Love the integrated screen protector. Button placement is perfect. Feels substantial and well-constructed. I may cut out the dust screens like one other reviewer did-- for some reason the 5C is hard to hear on calls as it is, and the dust screens don't help. My phone is in a hard environment, and this case makes me feel like the phone is safe. Don't understand the negative reviews. I like it. I was looking for something military-grade, and this seems like it.

UPDATE MAY 2013: The polycarbonate broke on a corner where the cover plug for the mute switch on the phone is positioned. The cover plug is no longer secure. The case has not been dropped even once. The plastic in the other similar areas seems very thin and susceptible to the same breakage. Changed cases to the Ballistic SG case.

I purchased this after dropping my old phone in some water. I then bought my first smart phone and wanted it to be super protected. I looked at a bunch of competitive products, lifeproof case, otterbox, and this one seemed the best for the 5c. Since it is a new model, not a lot of cases had been offered. I purchased this one so that I would not have to worry about dropping it or scratching the screen. While it is very durable (dropped it numerous times without incident), every time that happens the case needs to be clicked back in. One side always comes undone. Not a big issue. There are three big issues I have with this case however. One is the size of it. It is super thick. When I finally took the phone out of the case I was surprised at how much slimmer it was. So basically, if you are a guy, sticking it in your pocket really stinks. Not only is it really bulky (don't even TRY to put it in jeans pockets), it is also pretty sticky. So if you decide to put it in said pocket, expect to have the entire pocket turn inside out every time you take it out, and shoving it back INTO the pocket is only marginally easier. I know it comes with a clip, but I don't like clips. If you do like clips, disregard the last few sentences. Next is the issue of hearing phone calls. Bottom line, you really can't. It is water tight for the most part, but that comes with a price. the hole for the earpiece has a little black strip on the inside to repel water. It does a great job with this, but it also repels sound. So if you want to hear someone on the line as clearly (mostly) as you would without the case, you need to open the case and take a knife and gently cut the little piece off the inside of the earpiece.Read more ›

Survivor is the only case of the bunch that promises military grade protection from wind, rain, sand, dust, and vibrations in addition to shocks and falls. The exterior is all rubber. the material has a slightly gritty texture, making it easier to hold. All four of the iPhone’s buttons are covered, and Griffin has done a great job ensuring their tactility; each of them clicks without any issue, and they all feel quite nice. Equally impressive are the port, camera, and switch covers: The headphone port, Lightning port, rear camera and flash, and side switch are individually protected by thick rubber when not in use, but made to be easy accessible when needed. Permanent protective membranes cover the speaker and earpiece, although the microphone is exposed through a small hole in the headphone port cover. Despite this tiny opening, audio during phone calls isn’t effected. Without a doubt, this is the single most protective case i have seen yet seen for the iPhone 5c.
