Cole must help the victims of a plane crash rest in peace.,
This review is from: Survivor (The Sixth Sense: Secrets from Beyond, Book 1) (Paperback)
On a class trip to the museum, Cole Sear sees a plane crash right in front of him. Now the victims of the crash follow him arround, all tormenting him mercilessly, with the exception of one. Marisa is a fifteen-year-old girl who died in the plane crash. Her eight-year-sister Emily, the sole survivor, lies in a coma, hanging between life or death. Marisa is the only one of the ghosts who has accepted her fate, and now she wants Cole to help Emily so she can move on to her final peace. One of the other ghosts is a violent spirit who keeps saying weird things in Russian that translate out to such things as "Tell them I didn't do it" and "I'm innocent." Cole sees the news and learns the dead man is suspected of being a terrorist who caused the plane to crash. A policeman, whose own brother was like Cole and saw dead people, wants Cole's help in finding out what caused the crash of the plane, and Cole is determined to find the cause so that the ghosts will leave him alone. This was a great story for young fans of the movie that is set a few months later. I loved how the ending was the complete opposite of what I expected - a total plot twist, like in the movie! But I won't reveal what it is. You'll just have to read for yourself.

Almost as good as the movie!,
A Kid's Review
This review is from: Survivor (The Sixth Sense: Secrets from Beyond, Book 1) (Paperback)
The book begins with Cole visiting a museum on a class field trip. As he wanders off with his best friend, Jason, they witness a plane crash. The crash victims, who have died, begin haunting Cole. They won't leave him alone until he helps them. As the book progesses, new characters are introduced.... a dead girl from the crash who befriends Cole, a detective who is trying to get Cole to help him figure out how the crash happened, and other various victims from the tragic crash. The book will keep you on the edge of your seat, just like the movie! And the ending has a great twist.... which you have to read to find out for yourself! I look forward to more books in this series!

The start of something new...,
This review is from: Survivor (The Sixth Sense: Secrets from Beyond, Book 1) (Paperback)
I, an adult, read this book (aimed at younger readers) in one night. I couldn't put it down. The book captured many highlights of the film, but it specifically left out Dr Malcolm Crowe. While he is mentioned in the story, Malcolm has accepted his fate and moved on. This story sets up a few new characters who would be nice additions to future books in the series (of which I'm certain will follow). A police officer who knew someone with the gifts and 'believes' was a nice touch. The book begins with his mom believing, but there are still struggles for the boy wonder. Although a shower scene reminded me of the unnecessary duplication of moments from the movie to the book, I was satisfied that the feel of this story matched the movie. I look foward to more books in this series.
