I cannot be impersonal in writing about this book and and author. His home town could have been my home town town had my parents not left it in time. I was born 5 years after my mother arrived in the USA. Mr. Biber's story is that of my aunts, uncles and cousins cousins, although I pray that they did not suffer the horrors he and his wife survived, before my family was murdered. How was Jacob Biber able to write his experiences without breaking down? It must have been that he knew his sacrifice was necessary, because we must know know what happened. We must remember his murdered baby baby. I know that this story is not exxagerated, because I grew up with my mother's middle of the night screaming nightmares (from pre-Holocaust experiences)

This is in many ways an inspiring story of the triumph of the human spirit. I don't believe I would have been strong enough not to give up. It was an exciting read, and I could not put it down. I recommend it very strongly even for people who did not grow up with such evocative stories of my parents' growing up there that I recognized the old town, even the monastery that became SS headquarters.
