A great resource for my travels, February 26, 2011
This review is from: Susan B. Anthony Slept Here: A Guide to American Women's Landmarks (Paperback)
I purchased this book shortly after it was published in 1994 and have used it in traveling to many states and looking up women's memorials wherever I go. I always consult it before going to a 'new' state to see what places I will want to go. My favorite was the Museum on Madison Street in Rochester, N.Y. where Susan B. Anthony lived. I also visited her grave and the grave of Frederick Douglas is in the same cemetery.
My book is well used and because of it, I have - together with other women who are interested in history - launched an effort to raise $100,000 to build a suffrage monument in the Tennessee state capital city of Nashville to be dedicated on August 26,2020, the 100th anniversary of the 19th amendment. When I first read this book I was struck by the comment about Nashville that "shockingly, there is no official memorial to the breathtaking finale to that event: the vote in this city that led to ratification of the Nineteenth Amendment. I am now retired and have time to work on this project and hope we will be successful.
