Book Description

What if the man you loved was a smuggler--or a spy?

Jobless and nearly destitute, Susanna Ward intends only to find work as a governess. She certainly has no intention of contacting her family, who cast off her father and scorned her mother years ago. But a chance encounter with a figure from her past suggests that her estranged grandfather was murdered, and that his death was connected to a local ring of smugglers, led by a mysterious figure who calls himself Captain Clark.

When Captain Clark himself appears at her door, wounded and in need of her help, Susanna must decide where her true loyalties lie. And she must also discover the truth of her grandfather's death. Otherwise the man she is rapidly falling in love with may be hanged for treason and murder.

Susanna and the Spy is a cozy mystery, appropriate for all ages. It is approximately 70,000 words in length.

4.0 out of 5 stars fun, clean read with some light suspense January 19, 2012

What a great book. Very enjoyable reading for cold days. It was hard to put down... I was eager to know "what next"? I loved reading a clean story, no sex & probably no (or little) profanity. Can't wait to read more about these characters.

5.0 out of 5 stars A wonderful cozy read! January 3, 2012

Put a couple of logs on the fire, settle back in your comfy chair, and have a wonderful time reading this Regency romantic adventure. Susanna is charming and witty with a droll tongue and a fun sense of humor. From the moment that we meet her--and she meets the mysterious "Captain Clark"--the pages just seem to turn themselves. It's a mystery and a romance at the same time. Just delightful!

5.0 out of 5 stars A fun read ... January 3, 2012

I'm a big fan of historical mysteries and I really enjoyed this cute, cozy regency one. I loved the characters and the sweet romance that blooms in the midst of the whodunnit. I'm not an expert on the time period, but the historical details were fun and seemed accurate as far as I could tell. All in all, a great read.

2.0 out of 5 stars It was fast reading
Unfortunately it was a book that was easy to put down and pickup later because you have it on your tablet and thought it might be interesting.

2.0 out of 5 stars Romantic suspense that's neither romantic nor suspenseful!
Mystery/suspense is my very favorite genre of literature, and I'm not-so-secretly addicted to Regency romances. Read more

This is a fun book with a great many twists that keep you wondering. I enjoy reading period pieces that peek into the lives of history - in this case during the era of Napoleon but... Read more

2.0 out of 5 stars Not a romance
It's a suspense that could of been a romance. That promised to be a romance. That gave a hint that it might be a romance. It's not one. Read more

3.0 out of 5 stars Reasonably well written
This was quite a good short story, not too deep and reasonably well written. I would have liked a bit more depth but good none the less.

I think you'll enjoy this book. It tends to drag a bit in the middle but keep going! You need to read the sequel also to tie up the story. Read more

Looking for some light reading. But, this is not hugely satisfying. But, clean and safe. I enjoy reading some easy reading.
