A Fun and Enjoyable Work of Art,

I went into this purchase being familiar with only Cornelius(whose music is brilliant) and Pizzicato Five. Those two bands were the only things that inspired me to get it. But I was blown away by all of the other music on this recording. "Sweden, Heaven and Hell" was a great surprise, bringing in a classic Muppets song into the mix. Also, "I did Rock and Roll Music" surprised me with the arrays of vocals on the track. These songs are fun, and remarkably light-hearted. Quite simply, the music is relaxing and on the converse, danceable. I am not disappointed.

Cool Stuff From Japan,

Bungalow have a reputation for releasing amazing records, it is well deserved. As implied by the title of this CD all the artists featured are Japanese, what's more, all are fabulous. It includes better known J-Pop names such as pop dilettante Kahimi Karie who sings her big hit "Good Morning World" (which started it's life as a make-up commercial in Japan), there's the incredible Pizzicato Five representing the Shibuya region and pop superstar Cornelius. There's also loads of bands not as familiar, but equally wonderful. I love what Les 5-4-3-2-1 does with Bacharach's "Bond Street " (turning it into a go-go classic that owes a very large and obvious debt to Stereolab's "Ping Pong"), Date of Birth supply "Aim At El Paso", which sounds like a groovy reworking of Morricone's "The Good, the Bad and The Ugly" and Hajime Tachibana's version of "Moog Power" is a worthy salute to the song's composer Hugo Montenegro. Even if you have a passing interest in lounge-styled (I used the term loosely) music, and indeed in modern Japanese pop music (which you should), you'll love this.

A fab collection of shibuya-kei style music. A perfect cd for those who are interested in this style of j-pop. My personal favourites are Fantastic Plastic Machine, Date of Birth, Kahimi Karie, Hajime Tachibana and Cornelius.

I paid over $20 for this CD in Japan and it was worth every penny of it. A great collection of alternative japanese pop. Guaranteed after you listen to it you will get hooked and start buying the individual artist label. This and Sushi 4004 is great but I think this is slightly better. Well worth it. If you like P5, Kahimi Karie and Fantastic Plastic Machine, you will love this CD.

Absolutely delectable! But, like anything sugary sweet, should be taken in moderation, or it might make you sick. Some songs will have you smiling and singing along, others digging the pop groove, and yet others asking yourself "I wonder what they're saying?"

When I first bought this album, I only purchased it for the sheer fact that there was a Fantastic Plastic Machine song and a Pizzicato Five song. After listening all the way through, I absolutley fell in love with this cd. I especially liked 'comment te dire adieu' by tokyo's coolest combo, because whenever that song came on in my car my friends commented that it sounded like elevator music(it's unique!). To get a sampling of the japanese club-pop scene, I would reccomend either of the sushi cds!

Checked out a few tracks; if you like pizacatto five, you might like this. Good music to do the dishes to and or vacuum the carpet after having a couple of brews. But I wouldn't dance to it, as suggested.

After buying Fantastic Plastic Machine by Fantastic Plastic Machine (absolutely fabulous), I excitedly purchased Sushi 3003. Since it included a song by FPM I thought it would be a great sampler of similar Japanese techo pop, but instead it was a bland, silly cd. Most of the songs were instantly forgetable or perhaps best enjoyed if you spoke Japanese, since the melodies left a lot to be desired. Other tracks bordered on embarrassing like "Boy from Ipanema." I listened to this cd twice and relegated it to the bottom of my collection. If you like Japanese techno pop & electronica, then I highly recommend Fantastic Plastic Machine, Luxury (good but not great) and all of the Pizzicato 5 cds, excepting Pizzicato 5 remix albums (can you really improve upon perfection?)
