Bunch fennel seed were mixted in the container so they smelt funny when I opened it. (I hate the smell of the fennel)
I comb them out while I roasted but the fennel smell still lingered. I will never buy this again.
As pointed out by a previous reviewer, the seeds are quite small. They are not all black in terms of the color. I'd rather say something else (regular white sesame seeds?) are mixed in. Even after roasting, the aroma is not nearly as good as those unroasted decent black sesame seeds I had back when I was in China. Most importantly, the flavor! Those seeds are bitter and I dare say, you must put tons of sugar to barely cover the bittness. Unhealthy on one hand, and bad-tasting on the other hand.
I went to my local Asian market yesterday and I found the sesame seeds there, black and white, are of much better qualify and a lot cheaper.
Bottem line: Would not recommend it to anyone else. Do not waste your money. As much as I like Amazon, you just fail on this one.
My wife was surprised to find the sesame seeds had a strong industrial chemical type smell. She washed the seeds and noticed the water became discolored.
We began to suspect the seeds were dyed.
She cooked some and said they were terrible taste.
We contacted Amazon for refund and complaint and refund was immediately issued.
The product was poor, but Amazon was awesome!
I did not notice right away but when I poured the contents into a fresh container to combine the packets, but there were millions of weevils!
Everything had to be thrown out...given to the chickens!
It was a total waste! I never knew that sesame seeds could walk on their own!!
Some other kinds of seeds (fennel?) are also in here. This is a supreme disappointment, as when I purchase "black sesame seeds," I expect black sesame seeds.
These don't even smell like black sesame seeds.
The kind from JFC is much better.
