Wonderful new anime character!,
This review is from: Sushi Girl (Paperback)
This book is really great because it is in full color and the colors are vibrant. The story is creative and I could not put it down. I already am a big fan of Sailor Moon and Pokemon and Sushi Girl is an exciting new addition to my anime collection. I cannot wait for Sushi Girl #2.

Tavicat's best since Reality Check!,

This review is from: Sushi Girl (Paperback)
Sushi Girl, originally shown in Mixx's girls mangazine Smile, is printed in its full content in this great little graphic novel. Creator Stu Levy teamed with the writing talent of Rosearik Rikki Simons(the voice of Gir on Invader Zim)and the shojo-style art of his wife Tavisha Wolfgrath Simons come together to make for a wonderfully delicious anime story. Rosearik and Tavisha did the funny Reality Check series and its current spinoff: Ranklechick and His Three Legged Cat. Now their splendid use of computer graphics and anime artwork combine for this book that's good for all ages. Sushi Girl happens in 222 A.A.(After Armageddon)where the Earth is split up in several different areas. Kemmy is a normal girl from the sticks who has saved up her whole life to go to the Big Melon, which is the new neo-mall-metropolis. Unfortunately, all her currency from home ain't worth jack upstairs, so her dreams of being an operap diva are shot down. But because of a breakout at the zoo, and Kemmy's quick thinking and Bunny Board skills, she becomes a hero and gets a job as a sushi delivery girl. Then she starts a band with the other guys at Rainbow Sushi called the Phatlantis Phive. Seems nice until the spiteful b!+(# Olivia Neutron Bomb shows up to ruin things. Will Kemmy and the band work up enough good karma to save the day? Will we ever find out why there are talking purple midget mooses. Duh! Of course!

this is great manga it lacks a bit of story line but other then that its pretty good.it has very "FUN" artwork its not like most manga where it's black and white its colered (black and white is eseier to fallow).it's starts in 222 AA (after armageddon) with sevral places to chose from: megamallopolisuika population:6 billion(the great place to live),megamallopolisticks population: 1.5 billion(the dopy place to live) and a "frozen ice cream age earth" population: 80 million (cows and 3 (humans). the story starts with a kemmy a pink haired 18 year old common girl from the sticks who has a dream of being a OPERAP star and has been saving up her karma (they now use it for money if your nice you earn it if your meen they take it away) for years and when she finnaly gets to the big melon she finds out that sticks karma is not exepted! and she has no karma to get back! she finnaly gets a job as a sushi delivery girl, and forms a band with the other workers! join them in there "adventures" to fight crime, deliver sushi and become an OPERAP STAR! ! this is a good bookif you have nothing else to read but if you are looking for a good manga then i would suggest ether "sailor moon" or "ranma 1/2" or anything by CLAMP.but i truly can't wait to get my hands on my own copy (i read it at the library) cuz i colect manga and seeing as i have the first one it makes sense but i still can not say wether it is good or bad becuse i am not sure myself.

No plot, no character arc, no action (by which I don't mean fighting, I mean *anything* happening other than people talking to each other). This story is set on a happy planet full of happy people out to force everyone else in the universe to be as happy as they are or else they'll take away your happy karma points. Did I mention how happy they all are delivering sushi and playing happy tunes in a happy band? I think I'd rather die than read this book again. As for the artwork, it's better than the writing...but try comparing it to real manga. Sailor Moon, Card Clamp Sakura, MARS, Peach Girl, Utena -- with superb artwork like there is in those books, who needs [bad] 3D backgrounds or imitation-cute characters who rarely express any emotion, which is all "Sushi Girl" has to offer?

This is proof that you don't have to be japanese to write a good story! I think it is great! I think the viewer that gave it a bad rating didn't really understand Sushi Girl, or was having a bad day. This is such an original story and I am totally hooked! Pray that the rumor that they are not going to publish any more stories about Sushi Girl is not true! I beg Tavicat and Stew to publish more! PULEEEEESE! It is so good for my Karma! *wink* This cool story is of the future of a world where good people with good karma get rich from the good things they do..and the bad ones with negative Karma do not. So nice people get money from being nice and the not so nice don't. (sigh)Such good logic! :-) The main character is called Kemmy, my fav pink haired girl who will help fight bad Karma and deliver sushi on time to sing in her band! If you haven't read it, get it! The art is cool and the colors are so vibrant and so is Kemmy and this story! It rocks!

v. kewl!,

I loved the art and the story line. The backgrounds were spectacular and the charachters (I never could spell that word) were original. Unfortunately, I heard that Tavicat gave up and they aren't going to finish and release the second book, scheduled to come out this month. Everybody e-mail them and tell them to please publish it! Fans of SM will definately enjoy this.

Sushi and.... Opera Rap?,

I loved this graphic novel because of the imaginitive storyline and interesting characters-- like Zoo Pets, the friendly zoo animals, and Kemmy, the pink-haired country girl who comes to this city and finds out she has no money! She decides to join a sushi delivery service known as Rainbow Sushi (home of Quo Quo the purple moose Zoo Pet) after the pretzel vender Shay helps her save the day... They soon follow Kemmy's dream of becoming an Opera Rap star when they start to form a band called the Phatlantis Phive! What lies in wait for the five young heroes? You'll have to read it and see...Amazing artwork on Tavicat's part, a wonderful creation from Stu Levy. Read this and you'll never think of sushi the same way again!

Sushi on the go!,

One of Tokyo Pop's very first original titles was this American anime-styled comic that came out back when they were still called Mixx Entertainment. The first half of is was printed up in Tokyo Pop's Smile Magazine, and then reprinted in a small paperback along with the rest of the story. It was concieved by Tokyo Pop head Stu Levy, but written and drawn by Tavicat, otherwise known as Tavisha Wolfgarth and Rikki Simons(the voice of Gir from Invader Zim).
Taking place about 2 centuries after yet another futuristic apocalypse, the world is divided into several sections. One is an area made of sticks, sort like the boonies, and fresh young happy-go-lucky pink-haired girl Kemmy leaves the sticks to the mega-mall city on the other side of the planet where everything is traded through a system based on karma. The more good karma you have, the better you are. Kemmy hopes to be an "OperaRap" star, but doesn't have any good karma in this brave new world. However, she manages to stop a rampaging bunch of wild zoo animals with her mad bunny board(flying-scooter)skills. She then gets hired by a talking purple moose to be a delivery girl for a sushi shop. Kemmy and her fellow co-workers try to form their own rock band too, although the jealous snobby neerdowell, Olivia Neutron Bomb, sabotages their premiere concert. Kemmy uses her good karma and natural singing talent to save the day though, only to become a secret agent by her boss. Sushi Girl is a pretty good manga. It's got some great colorful visuals that Tavicat employed impressive 3D graphics for, which they also used on their original comic of Reality Check(which is unfortunately left out of the Tokyo Pop reprint). The story is good too, although the first half seems a little more fluid than the second half. Whether this had something to do with the initial magazine release of the first half is unknown. The comic was later redone as a light novel for younger readers called Karma Club by DJ Milky. There was going to be an animated series based on Karma Club a few years ago, but so far nothing on that. Still, Sushi Girl is one of the more delightful little "Ameri-manga" titles to come out, and its worth tracking down a copy of the paperback for your library.

Is it just me or was the release CANCELLED on this second installment of the adventures of Sushi Girl? Is it just me or is this terrible news? I'm sure that had it been published I would have rated it five stars (which is what I put above), but unfortunately it never will be. :::sniffs::: E-mail me if you have any news of Sushi Girl living on... sailorgirl615@sailormoon.com
