This does work. Use warm rice. Have a small bowl of cold water handy to coat your hands to keep it from sticking. I also immersed the mold before filling. Little fingers get stuck in the hole to push mold out easily, so watch for that. Really cram the rice in there to get a good shape. May take some practice, but worth the happy child.

I really like the molds. My kids like the molds. It makes lunch prep fun and they feel like helping out. Granted, they are only 3 and 18 months, so that gives you a sense for how much they want to help.

The first couple of times I used the molds, the rice wouldn't come out easily. Then, I used less water when cooking the rice and now the rice comes out quite easily from the molds. The star shape still seems to stick, no matter what. So, we make fewer stars.

If you don't have luck at first, make dryer rice. You can also dust the inside of the molds with rice flour (or really, any kind of flour). Someone suggested I use a little oil on the inside of the molds, but I haven't tried that yet. Simply pulling out the lids of the molds doesn't get the rice out (when I tried). I find tapping the molds on a plate gets them out.

don't give up. It's really fun once you get the hang of it.

I just used these today and they work amazingly well. The rice comes out easily and the molds can be cleaned fairly quickly. The cute shapes are just what I need for my little one when he gets to eating solid food and are perfect for my bento box. They are sturdy and perfect for portion control.
You can use these for foods other than rice such as sweet potatoes, soft cheese, etc.

Every other site I've ever seen this listed on do not refer to these as rice molds... because they're not. They're cups for holding small amounts of food (dried fruit or nuts come to mind, maybe a thicker pudding or even jell-o) and help keep things separated in your bento. I can't imagine trying to use these as rice molds. The flexible silicone would make it impossible for the rice to hold its shape. Rice molds are stiff plastic with a lid, unlike these silicone cups. I love mine, and I use them for their intended purpose. =)

I didn't buy these to use as a sushi mold, but instead to use as a separator for my bento box. Luckily, it also works fine as a mold. For anybody having problems getting the rice out of the mold, soak them in water and leave a tiny bit of water in them before you put in the rice. It should easily slide out. c:

I ordered this product thinking it was a bit bigger. When I got them, I found that the cups are only 1.5 - 2 inches in diameter. Any disappointment at their size was quickly remedied once I used them. They make the cutest rice shapes! It does take some practice though. And the softer type of silicone means you have to somewhat help the cup hold its shape with your one hand while you're shoving the rice in there with the other. (As another reviewer said, cramming it in there helps get a better shape.) Once you get the hang of it, it makes it totally worth it. I put these in my bento box for work and they are just the right size for a mouthful of rice (adult-size mouth).

If I'm this happy with them as an adult, I can only imagine how delighted a child would be getting these in their lunch for the first time ;)

These little silicon cups are tiny but perfect for my bento box! They are extremely small - and will hold at most a few tablespoons of food - but they are flexible, adorable, and will serve to separate nuts or candies or chopped vegetable pieces from other items in the bento box. Keep in mind, however, that they are truly tiny - one cup will hold no more than a few spoons of food, and only if the food is chopped finely. (I used cashews today and was only able to pack about seven pieces.) Please note, these are not rice molds - I tried to mold rice and the mold, being soft and pliable, had no structure with which to form the shapes. Rice sticks easily to the sides and is crushed if one tries to slip it out. However, as compartments or food cups, they are brightly colored, efficient, and perfect. I would recommend these to anyone looking for a greener way to separate or store snacks in their bento boxes without wasting paper baking cups every time. (:

I hesitated in purchasing these because of the reviews stating that the rice sticks. When I got them in, I happened to have some rice made up, so I gave them a quick wash and dry and tried it out - no problem at all getting the rice out. Just pack the rice, turn over, and squeeze just a little bit and the perfectly formed ball pops right out.

I do think, though, that type of rice probably makes a difference - I tried this using washed sushi-grade rice made in a rice cooker. It's a little bit stickier than long-grain American rice, which helps it maintain form. If you don't feel like buying special rice, I would definitely take the time to wash your rice - run water over and slosh it about a bit, then dump the murky water, repeating until the water stays clear - before cooking.

It's easy to put in the rice and push it out through the other end, you just have to oil it a little before using. It's easy to clean, too. I recommend using this item to make cute and quick bentos.

I have recently started doing my own bento lunches and love these rice molds. They aren't too big, so they fit perfectly in my bento box. They are easy to figure out and really a great product. I love them!
