Bring Back Anthony!,
By Gail (newtown, pa.) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Suspicion of Betrayal (Hardcover)
For a smart woman Gail isn't always too bright but it's nice to have a strong female character instead of a wimp. The characters are well developed. But please, bring Anthony back! The chemistry between Gail and Anthony adds to the enjoyment of the plot.

Heartache in Miami,
By Lisabeth Castle (Colorado) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Suspicion of Betrayal (Paperback)
Wow what a page turner. After having read all of the previous Suspicions this one left me thirsty for the next one. The ending leaves you feeling empty and incomplete. The murderous plot is exciting but what gives the book it's richness is the relationship between Gail Connor and her sizling lover Anthony Quintana. In this Chapter of their relationship you see the frailty of what has become a tempestuos relationship. Both of them are so overcome by their passion that neither one of them can think straight. I found myself wrought by physical heartache every time Gail and Anthony blundered into another act of betrayal in the name of love. As a cuban american living out west this book left me longing for the sounds of Miami. The descriptions of the exiled Cuban community are right on. A must read especially now during the Elian crisis in Miami. May is too far away to wait for the next installment. Please Barbara but and end to my heartache.

What has happened to Anthony?,

I loved the romance and the mystery in this series. This book didn't live up to either one.

A Good Read,
By A Customer
This review is from: Suspicion of Betrayal (Hardcover)
I thoroughly enjoy reading the continuing story of Gail and Anthony. The politics of the Cuban-American community in Miami is interesting. The characters are well developed and engaging. However, it is frustrating to have Gail continuously making stupid mistakes. As a lawyer with her own practice, you'd think she would smarten up. The book would have gotten 5 stars from me if the ending (regarding the stalker) wasn't so predictable. The author gave away the identity of the stalker about three-fourths of the way through the book so the last fourth was pretty flat as far as the mystery was concerned. The story between the main characters continued to be engaging and I can't wait for the next book in this series to see what happens between them.

A Great Read Once You Get Into It!,
By
This review is from: Suspicion of Betrayal (Paperback)
This is the first of Barbara Parker's books I have read, not realizing that this was part of a sequel of books before, so I'll have to go back and read the others before moving on.
Anyhow, Gail Connor the main character of the story, is an attorney with a thriving law practice of her own. She is also divorced with one daughter, Karen a pre-teen, and new fiance Anthony Quintana. All is great in her life until a threatening phone call is received. And after that other scary events follow. Someone sprays the word DIE on her car, murders her daughter's kitty in a horrible way, and then threatens Karen. There are several suspects involved here, including her fiance himself. Is it Charlie Jenkins, the handyman who comes to work on Gail's home, or might it be Wendell Sweet, her client's very crazy ex-husband who wants revenge at all costs? Her fiance Anthony also doesn't like Dave, Gail's ex-husband, and when he sees Gail close to Dave, he turns cold. The whole relationship does in fact. Gradually, everything in Gail's world begins to crumble around her, and the real criminal is still out there waiting to strike again.

Who might Be???,
By A BEP 090 Student (Garden City, New York) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Suspicion of Betrayal (Paperback)
With the first phone call Gail O'Connor received, her fear began mysteriously. An anonymous voice on the other line threatened to kill her.
From the beginning this book keeps you awake. The mystery begins from the first page. I'm in the middle of the book and so far I have no idea who the killer might be! Gail O'Connor is an attorney in Miami. Gail is fighting for the custody of her daughter Karen, and Gail's lovely fiancee Anthony Quintana is going through family problems. Two monthes before Gail and Anthony's wedding everything started to go wrong. I'm wondering who wants to kill Gail. So far this looks like a revenge

A great suspense novel,
By Nino Mariano (Fairfield, CA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Suspicion of Betrayal (Paperback)
From the first page to the last, this was a real suspense book. Without giving too much of the story away, it's about a high-class lawyer who lives alone with her daughter. She then started to get these weird and threatening phone calls, which then turned into things that were far more serious. As the story goes on, twists and turns await the reader, and blood is spilled and fingers are pointed. There isn't much else to say about this book other than the fact that Barbara Parker is a genious when it comes to writing suspense novels. Be sure to check out her other novels!

Heart-stopping page-turner!,
This review is from: Suspicion of Betrayal (Hardcover)
Wow! Barbara Parker does it again ... this time even more exciting than her earlier books, which were superb. Witty and full of intrigue, the book moves with speed and turns that would make a class-four rapids blush. This is a book that is hard to beat!

She changed Anthony's personality. Other than that the mystery was great. I hope she gets them back together in her next book.

It's a page turner, but when will the heroine get smart?,
By
This review is from: Suspicion of Betrayal (Hardcover)
This latest entry in the Gail Connor series is a page turner at the very least, if only to watch the heroine get herself into deeper and deeper difficulties! While loyal readers have been following the love story of Gail and her Cuban fiance with excitement and passion(Ms. Parker does write sex scenes that sizzle), one cannot help but groan each time Gail makes incredibly dumb moves. She is the epitome of gullibility, and it's hard to admire her legal acumen; she seems to be marginally competent and pretty unethical to boot. Her 11 year old daughter's resiliency in the face of more episodes of post traumatic stress than anyone could imagine in a lifetime are beyond belief. The plot is intricate and the twists and turns are somewhat predictable, but the characters are pretty interesting, and one wonders what will happen in the next installment. But it's hard to know who to root for at this point - whether it comes to raising her daughter, taking care of her clients, or her future with men, Gail seems pretty inept. I'm rooting for the daughter, but she better have a great amount of resiliency cause she certainly isn't getting much parenting! The glimpses into Miami/Cuban power and families is fascinating, and the writing is crisp and evocative. She sets the scene, and the characters seem to develop from book to book, except for poor Gail who seems to be regressing. Hopefully, Gail will make some better decisions in the next book - Please?
