Book Description

How did an image-obsessed shopaholic become an environmentalist and learn to achieve sustainability with style? It wasn't always an easy road, but after a few personal disasters Lisa figured out how to be green without losing her identity, and she's sharing her lessons with you.
Part autobiography, part eco-guidebook and part cultural exploration, Lisa shares everything from learning the ropes of eco-fashion and natural beauty products, to understanding the best way to talk about the environment with non-greenies and how she eventually found her own eco-balance. If you've ever wanted to 'go green' but just can't picture yourself as a tree hugger, let Lisa show you how you can achieve sustainability without losing your personal style.
Throughout her story Lisa also examines cultural and social barriers to climate change action. After all, the environmental dilemma is not just a scientific one, it's a human one, a cultural one, a personal one and a collective one, and understanding these barriers will assist the movement in entering mainstream culture, enabling a sustainable future for all.

Now, here is a challenge: Take an episode of Sex and the City (in book format), add a cup of easy-to-comprehend climate science and policy a la Al Gore, a spoonful of useful factoids a la Dr Karl, and spice it all with some Social Inclusion Theory! Lisa Heinze takes us on a journey through a few hectic years of exploration, change, and action. She explains how she has turned her life around, from being part of the problem to being part of the solution for how a sustainable future can be created. This optimistic and thought provoking tale includes tips on how to make informed consumer choices; everything from coffee cups, and mascara to apartments, food choices, and employer. The examples of preferred products are useful, but the suggestions for how anyone can research, ask questions, and make informed and sustainable decisions is the key value of this book. Lisa also offer a detailed, and sometimes very entertaining, analysis of how her friends and family reacted (and acted) in response to her decision to change her way of life.

If you ever thought you might want to reduce your footprint but lack a bit of inspiration or are unsure where to start, this is the book for you - Sustainability with Style is an easy to read inspirational introduction to sustainable lifestyle choices.

5.0 out of 5 stars A perfect balance April 29, 2012

Ms. Heinze weaves together an interesting, informative, and entertaining account of her journey from fashionista/consumer to her current passionate ecological lifestyle. Her explanation of her process --- the joys, the stumbles and challenges-- - led this reader to consider the impact that our daily decisions may have both today, and tomorrow.
Ms. Heinze intersperses her personal vignettes with her research, thus the reader never feels bogged down in the science , and yet one comes away with plenty of food for thought! Well done!

5.0 out of 5 stars MUST READ August 5, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition
This is a different book from the normal ones I read yet it smacks of someone who is interested in our Eco system and how we need to change the way we lead our lives to help the environment with style and pizzazz

The writer has gone on her own journey of change from being fashion conscious to changing how we perceive our planet and all the material objects we use and see in it.

She points out that we live in a world where most people are more concerned about having the latest style of clothes, handbags and shoes before they hit the magazines, she also shows how we take it for granted where we get everything from, we do not ask ourselves at what cost, how many trees, how many animals must become extinct because of our compulsive buying just for the best.

So this journey which the write has traveled shows how we bury our heads in the sand over what we buy, showing insights into how our society and culture had hindered green living and has uncovered what is best for the environment.

After meeting up with so many challenges and mistakes she has learned how to live sustainable with style, a lesson which we can all learn by.
