A virus in the making.,
By Anthony "Anthony" (Southern California) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Datapilot Pix'N Tunes (CD-ROM)
Well it's not a virus, but it might as well be called that. After purchasing and intalling the program, I notice that the program didn't work. So, I tried to erase it from my computer and hopefully I just needed to reinstall it. WRONG! THE DAMN THING NEVER LET ME REMOVE IT! I EVEN TRIED TO TAKE IT OUT THROUGH THE CONTROL PANEL AND IT WOULDN'T ALLOW ME TO REMOVE IT! The program has been a pain in my computer for weeks now. So please, AVOID THIS PRODUCT AS MUCH AS POSSIBLE. The online help from their website sux or shouldn't even be called help. Just a waste of time by reading though a list that doesn't help. I HATE THIS PRODUCT AND WISH ALL IT'S UNITS DESTROYED! I'd have a better change with something strange in the internet. I HATE IT! I HATE IT!I HATE IT!I HATE IT!I HATE IT!I HATE IT!I HATE IT!I HATE IT!I HATE IT!I HATE IT! (Like how the program continues to re-install itself when you don't want it to) I HATE IT!I HATE IT!I HATE IT!I HATE IT!I HATE IT!I HATE IT!I HATE IT!I HATE IT!

First iam not completely knocking data pilot products, in fact i may try them again. my phone was on the chart lgvx8100 but the software would not recognize it at first the website would mot accept the serial number, after i email them and i recieved no response. i return to the website and all of a sudden it accepted the number. then the sofware problems persisted. maybe i had the wrong version but my phone was in the book. maybe i will try again another version, maybe, BUYER BEWARE.....

Flashback to Windows 95,

This software promised a lot but did not deliver a single one of the promised features. I spent over 10 hours trying to get this thing to work. I contacted tech support through their online support site feature. I received a fast response which crytically guided me as to how to install the proper driver for the usb cable for my phone. The computer now recognizes that a Susteen cable has been plugged in with a phone attached but will not do anything with it. Launching the software causes an endless string of error messages about stuff not installed or loaded properly although I did reinstall it and repair the installation several times. Tech support is now unresponsive and telephone support has NO 800 number. It is only open 8 AM to 5 PM Pacific time on weekdays when the rest of the world works for a living. This whole experience reminds me of 10 years ago when installing software with Windows 95.

The Pix n' Tunes can deliver neither! The phone-end connector is poorly designed and looses connection easily if moved slightly. The software goes through endless installations of drivers and still does not "find" the phone (Verizon LG-VX5300), or rather it will at times identify the phone but then refuse to communicate with it. I would expect better from a piece of shareware. You would think that with so many camera phones out there that somebody would have a workable transfer solution?

I really don't know why people say that this product is bad! To be honest I got it and installed and it worked fine no "virus" type thing or what ever. BUT!!!!! DO NOT BUY IF YOU HAVE VERIZON(well for the RAZR at least)!!!! There is no hope sadly, I have a Verizon RAZR and all I could do was put my pix on the computer. I tried with the the V3c and mine the V3m. Nothing, My friend has a RAZR V3 and has the best ringtones EVER! Everything works! It sounds wonderfully clear. Trust me everything worked! And if you have Verizon don't even Wing it the block ALL their phones from Data Transfer Software even the Motorola ones so you have NO HOPE! But if you have another phone or service provider buy this it's great!

Works for my LG CU515,
By
This review is from: Datapilot Pix'N Tunes (CD-ROM)
I purchased the $19.95 download version of this software directly from DataPilot for my LG CU515 (I got a perfectly fine data cable for my phone from Amazon for $1.35). My phone is not supported by BitPim at this time, but since BitPim is freeware you should check to see if it might be a viable alternative for your phone before you spend money for this. From past experience I know it can be tricky to get a cell phone and PC communicating. The Pix 'n Tunes software installs easily enough, and has to install several USB-serial drivers, which may be why getting communications going typically requires some fiddling. Initially, the installed program couldn't find my phone, so I rebooted my PC and got a little closer. This time the software suggested removing the battery from the phone, letting it sit long enough so when the battery was reinstalled the phone would have to reboot. Presto! All was golden, although I had to use the communications drop down list and pick an alternate COM port to make first contact. I was then able to upload pics and download ring tones and graphics. I was even able to switch the cable over to my wife's phone in the same session. Pix 'n Tunes does not provide access to your contact list or things like games (presumably why it's cheaper than the more expensive DataPilot software, which incidentally at present doesn't support the LG CU line of phones). The software's editing capability is crude (ie., any editing is best accomplished using something else), but for its primary purpose it does fine. From past experience I know Susteen's customer service is non-existent, so if you have issues you are probably on your own. I give the software 4 stars because it does work (at least for me) and does 2 of the 3 things I really wanted ... I can install my own ring tones and pics, but it doesn't provide any means for managing my contact list. Of these, the contact list is least important since in a pinch I can get it from the phone's SIM chip.

not to happy,

I suppose if your phone is supported by this product it would be fine. I can't really say because my phone didn't work with it. Although I was under the impression that it was supposed to. After it didn't work, I went directly to their website and downloaded the version that was supposed to work with my phone and so far it hasn't worked either. I can't even get the program to launch. I've tried to email them about the problem and haven't recieved anything helpful. The one message they sent to me didn't help. I haven't had a chance to call the service phone number yet due to lack of time, but that is my next step.If you buy it make double sure that your phone is supported first. Otherwise it is a waste of time and money.

Program was a little tricky, but after about 5 minutes of messing around it was very easy to use. Comes in very handy and worth every penny i spent.
