Excellent compass from Suunto. Jeweled needle swings freely and quickly settles on N. Markings are clear and legible. Ruler/scales, marking holes, and magnifying glass suit orientation needs. Illuminated bezel is handy for night reading, although it will need to be "charged" with plenty of sunlight or a flashlight beforehand. Detachable clip initially felt flimsy, but has held up so far, so can't complain yet. My only gripe is this model does not featured geared declination, only a fixed scale, which is disappointing for an otherwise fantastic compass. I suppose it's my own fault for not reading the specs carefully, and it's still probably the best compass on the market at this price point, but I would have happily paid an extra $5-10 for a geared mechanism. Will still keep this around as a backup compass, but my next purchase will be a Brunton 15TDCL.

Without going in to too much detail, this compass is all you ever need in a basic compass. Excellent for general land-nav or orienteering. I keep mine in my hunting pack. Very accurate. Needle comes to a halt immediately on north. Magnifying view is OK. Bezel is not tritium, but still illuminates well. Tritium would drive up the price too much. Scales on the side are useful. This is a good compass to teach land-nav to novice students. I have yet to be disappointed with any Suunto compass or watch, especially for the price.

Yes, it does it's job. I misplaced my A-10 and went with an A-30 and it works just fine. Suunto has the most reliable compass when it comes to tracking a true magnetic north. The declination feature was a waste, but it still gets me where I need to go.

Accurate, easy to use and priced right. It seems to be built well although I haven't had the chance to really abuse it yet, I'm teaching a friend basic map and compass skills and it works great for them as well

These are relative inexpensive but very accurate compasses. I bought 2 of these, 1 in each for my wife's & my SERE bags. These compasses are very well made & accurate. I checked them against my USGI Cammenga Lensatic Compass & they are within 1 degree or less of agreeing with it.

Worked fine but please note you cannot adjust the declination on this model. I use it for adventuring racing so when you are in a race or hurry having to calculate the adjustment each time starting to get annoying.

I bought it for my 12-year old grandson. He seems to really like it and so does his 8-year old brother. The long neck strap is nice too.
