One of the least reliable devices I have owned, especially considering the price. It is both unfortunate and surprising, considering Suunto's excellent reputation. After almost a year of countless re-sets and battery replacements, I found the Wahoo Blue HRM belt (only works with the iPhone 4s) and never looked back. Sent the t6d back for service and plan to eBay it! Lesson learned.

I have owned a few Polar heart rate monitors. When my last one failed, my doctor suggested this baby. I was kind of shocked at the sticker price. (But I got it on the famous auction site for much less.) Having had it for six months or so, and if I had it to do all over again, I'd probably be happy to pay "full price" for it. It really does what it claims -- it's a sports/training lab on your wrist. Far more than an heart rate monitor, it computes all kinds of metrics that -- after some web research -- are quite useful for training.

I'm just a kind-of-fat guy trying to train the smartest way to lose weight and get into shape. But my doctor is a real athlete. Given that it suits us both (and we both love it!), I have to assume this baby is the right one for just about anybody that wants to train smarter. Full disclosure: this watch kicks out a LOT of data. It's somewhat overwhelming and I ended up buying some software called FirstBeat by a third-party company. I think I paid $70 for FirstBeat. But, when you pair this monitor with FirstBeat, it's AWESOME. It tells you how hard you exercised and then takes that information, along with your training goals, and tells you how hard you should workout for the next week. It schedules "rest days" and "hard days" and all that. Then, as you ignore the schedule, it just quietly updates the recommendations and tells you what to do next.

It kicks out a lot of data that FirstBeat analyzes for you and makes sense of your workouts. Too long... too high intensity... whatever. It gets you into the right "zone" for your goals. It's a great device and I find myself running upstairs to put it on when the family is just going out for a bike ride or similar. (Got to get "credit" for my exercise!)

If you're serious about training -- even if you're not a "hardcore" athlete -- this device is definitely going to help you understand what the training is doing to your body!
