Easy-to-read luminous markings help to use the compass in dark conditions
Product Description
A high quality compact compass designed with user-friendly features for general use. Another convenient feature of the models in the M series is the serrated bezel ring, which is easy to turn even in cold conditions while wearing gloves. Due to their easy-to-read luminous markings and magnifying lenses, the compasses of the M-Series are also ideally suited to navigating in conditions of poor visibility.
Contrary to what another reviewer wrote - this compass is liquid filled. The little metal screwdriver is for the adjustable magnetic declination scale. This is about the best compass in this price range due to the features above. It would be ideal if it were 1/2" longer, but at this price point there is nothing that can touch it, for quality and features. The only thing it would not excel at is very serious map work - it is ideal for the orienteer, hiking, scouting, and survival.
This is a great compass for terrain association and handrailing. You really don't need much more than something simple like this, unless you're doing dead reckoning or an orienteering course. The base is a little small length-wise - I'd like it if it were about a half-inch longer, but I have large hands.
I also like the clear base and easily turned bezel. All in all, a very good compass for the money.
No instruction are given for the declination adjustment. I expected that loosening the small screw would let me turn the dial and set the declination. Instead, turning the screw rotates the dial directly and thus sets the declination. Otherwise, this is a standard liquid-filled compass.
