5.0 out of 5 stars Courage to be Rich will make you rich
Suze Orman has written a excellent book. First, she focuses on the brass tacks for success---the mental state. This is much different and better than other psycho babble books about the mind(one exception is Miracle Power for Infinite Riches by Joseph Murphy) Most people are and stay broke because of what is going on between their ears. Many of the people I come across...

2.0 out of 5 stars mixed new age messages about money among finance 101 lessons
This is one of those books that makes me think that the absolutely best way to make money is to couch any topic--any topic at all--in new age platitudes. You'll get on Oprah and have a bestseller on your hands for sure. But what do we really get with "The Courage to Be Rich"? Financial basics for the rank beginner--what's IRA, what does an interest rate mean,...

5.0 out of 5 stars Courage to be Rich will make you rich, February 23, 2001
Suze Orman has written a excellent book. First, she focuses on the brass tacks for success---the mental state. This is much different and better than other psycho babble books about the mind(one exception is Miracle Power for Infinite Riches by Joseph Murphy) Most people are and stay broke because of what is going on between their ears. Many of the people I come across are either savers, earning less than 10% per year or spendthrifts with overactive lifestyles. Both groups end up broke.Far too many people put control in the hands of other people; brokers, financial planners, insurance agents and investment counselors. Suze puts empahasis on being your own financial planner. Great advice! I've done it and am wealthier as a result.I used to be one of those millions of Americans who couldn't wait for that once per year tax refund and felt so good about getting my own money back (interest free) from the IRS. STUPID!!! Why loan your money interest free to anyone especially the IRS? I don't anymore. That is new found money to invest in mutuals and stocks. I used to be a saver getting those impotent 2%-6% returns in "safe" places like savings accounts, savings bonds and cd's. After reading Courage to be Rich I now have the courage to invest in real investments that actually produce a profit. I also opened a money market mutual fund.I had a whole life insurance policy on myself. After careful examination, I took Suze's advice and dropped the whole life policy and switched to term. I agree 100% with Suze [now] that whole life is a rip off and only makes insurance companies rich. I also contend that most bank products are essentially dead money products (zero% checking, 2%-6& on savings, money market accounts and cd's and are only good investments for the bank, but total ripoffs for the customer.Six months ago, I never would have said that. I was a saver and encouraged banking. I was also broke and just making the bank rich. Not anymore. Now I use a bank cheking account just as a means of transferring money to my funds and securities.I would have liked to have seen more information on investing, perhaps that will come in a future book.Nevertheless, this book turned me around. I also recommend in addition to the aforementioned "Miracle Power", Business Buy the Bible and Wall Street Money Machine. Suze has turned me into a student of personal finance and personal development. I would not recommend books by the self serving Anthony Robbins. People I have talked to who used his system said that results were both "limited" and "temporary".Start with this book. The 9 Steps to Financial Freedom is also a must read. Then Miracle Power and Business Buy The Bible and if you want cash flow, Wall Street Money Machine is excellent.

5.0 out of 5 stars A very good book, July 7, 1999
By A Customer
I like the way Suzie teaches you to take control and overcome the main misconceptions of money. While parts are a repeat of her earlier work, none the less--a good book. Besides, repition is the mother of skill. I would also suggest reading, in fact they are must reading, "The Millionaire Next Door" by Stanley and Danko and "More Wealth without Risk" BY Givens. These are must reading for anybody for is serious about financial succe$$.

5.0 out of 5 stars Common sense is not always common knowledge, June 5, 1999
By A Customer
A nice sequel to Suze Orman's first two books, yes some is repeated, and yes it is a lot of common sense, but common sense is not always common knowledge. I liked the way that Suze taies in the right mental attitude about financial success. Overlooked by many other authors. I have to admit, at first I was taken back by Suze Orman, my wife is one of her biggest supporters and has constantly pestered me to read her books which I NOW HAVE. I also highy suggest three other financial books; The Millionaire Next Door, More Wealth without Rsk and Financial Self Defense..

5.0 out of 5 stars Broke the credit card habit-Thanks Suze, March 20, 2001
By
stella wainwright (dell-ites@webtv.net) - See all my reviews
Before reading Courage to Be Rich and 9 Steps to Financial Freedom, I was up to my ears in debt and desperately needed plastic surgery.I made a stupid mistake, getting deeply in debt with the two worst wealth busters: First USA and Providian with interest rates of up to 25% (Providian).I used the advice as Suze advised saving myself over $7,000 in interest. By following the advice as espoused by Suze, I cleaned up all three of my credit reports clearing incorrect information. I am know more financially educated and know what to look for in credit card companies and who to avoid-First USA and Providian. Thanks Suze. I'm now back on track, debt free and investing for the future.Suze's advice may be common sense, but is not common knowledge. I'm now sharing these ideas with in home clinics and produced a flyer that says "Break the Credit Card Habit."Our goal is to stamp out financial ignorance, particularly among ripoff credit card offers.

5.0 out of 5 stars Super book Suze!, November 20, 2000
I was skeptical about buying this book, partly on the reviews listed here and partly because I got burned from a book by another female financial author---Jane Bryant Quinn. Then I saw Suze on CNBC and was sold. She totally blew away established financial planners, regulars on CNBC and judging by the viewers response, she blew away the TV Audience as well. I was impressed to say the least so went out immediately and bought both The Courage To Be Rich and 9 Steps to Financial Freedom.Suze is the most passionate and dynamic financial strategist/author out there right now. About those negative reviews; I guess success breeds jealousy and/or some just don't understand the real dynamics of Financial Freedom. Those people probably prefer to read books written by people like QUINN and will also stay broke and financially frustrated.brbbnsbc71@yahoo.com

5.0 out of 5 stars A must read for the new Millenium., December 5, 1999
I read Ms. Orman's book while my husband and I were in the process of buying our first home. There were many things I found helpful while going thru a rather bewildering process. Admittedly, I am a self-help junkie, but this book was extremely readable. Very informative and the self-analysis questions kept it from being dry. It will help trace your first concepts of money (very interesting). I will be gifting several of my friends with this book. Also a great reference guide.

5.0 out of 5 stars DEVELOP THE COURAGE, MOVE YOUR STALLS ASIDE!, March 27, 1999
By
Bernice Yohalem (selbern@aol.com) (married for many years in New York) - See all my reviews
This latest book by Suze Orman continues her wonderful advice combining how to feel positive about making and collecting lots of money with simple "how to" investment advice about things like the common mortgage and retirement plan. This book is especially good for people who have unique problems and need basic financial advice. Her greatest contribution is to make people realize that on an emotional level, it is okay to want to be rich and her exercises help us develop THE COURAGE TO BE RICH. It is not as easy as it sounds. The psychological side of us keeps putting up "stalls" to succeeding. We need to ask ourselves some tough questions to deal with how we feel, what needs to be done and to develop solutions that make us and everyone else better off. I recommend THE 2,000 PERCENT SOLUTION if you are interested in identifying your own "stalls" and want to start asking some of the tough questions. You will start to succeed in many new ways and at a much faster rate. Read both books to become so much more effective and develop the courage to accept the good things that come your way.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Courage to Take your Head Out of the Sand., April 4, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Suze Orman - The Courage To Be Rich [VHS] (VHS Tape)
I saw this video when it appeared during a PBS Fund Drive. I found Ms. Orman's advice to be practical and inspiring. Although at first blush it seemed a bit "New Ageish", after seeing it a second time, I realized that she was merely tying to demonstrate how our emotions are connected to our spending habits. Basically, she recommends good self-esteem and common sense! I can't wait to buy it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Orman Takes The Bull by the Horns and Delivers a Book of Stellar Quality! A Must Read for All!, November 7, 2005
It's not often that a book, especially in this genre, will impact my life like this one already has. Suze Orman's book was given to me as a gift from a friend that I care about deeply. She knew that my life and my business had hit a sort of plateau and she felt that "The Courage to Be Rich: Creating a Life of Material and Spiritual Abundance" would help me in both my personal and business life.

This is one of those books that you simply can't put down. I'd suggest that after you purchase it, you find a time when you can allocate the whole day to reading it as you'll want to read it from cover to cover. I wanted to write a review to let people know about my own experience, after reading the book, and how it genuinely impacted my life. I hope that after reading my review, you'll gravitate towards buying the book for yourself. And if you're planning on buying it just as a gift, you might want to order 2 copies so you can enjoy reading a copy for yourself. You deserve it.

This is not your typical "Think and Grow Rich" type of book. It's not filled with a bunch of psychological nonsense that offers no real assistance to the reader. Instead, Orman takes the bull by the horns and delivers a book of stellar quality!

Before finishing even the first chapter, I discovered that the only real way to create a life of material and spiritual abundance was to become the Captain of my own ship and to not depend on any outside financial planner. Orman has taught me, through clear and wisely written steps, that I am capable of doing so much of what I placed in the hands of others. I'm 100% capable of doing so much of what I entrusted into financial planners, CPA's, and other professionals. Certainly, professionals all have their place, and we can call upon them at any time to assist us in our "New Life", but we need to hold our own torch as we cross the finish line in our courageous journey to become wealthier and create a life of material and spiritual abundance.

You'll find so many tips on financial issues that you really NEED to KNOW if you want to launch your income well beyond where it is today. Already, after just a few telephone calls and visits to "professionals", I've seen a dramatic increase in my profits and returns on my investments. Like so many, I had a decent amount of money sitting in bank accounts that were earning less than rates that are in some third-world countries. That's the honest truth and just one of the reasons I wanted to help folks in writing this review.

I have no connection to Ms. Orman, other than I have watched her on PBS television and have read one other book she wrote. I knew that her new book would have helpful information, but I never thought that in 2 weeks I would have such a dramatic shift in my income. She talks about financial counselors, lawyers, the IRS, taxes, 401K plans, retirement income, and the list goes on and on.

It doesn't matter whether you are retired and living on a social security pension or whether you're 24 years old and starting to franchise your business-this book is for you. I've purchased a copy for my Mom, who is retired and on Social Security, and I've purchased a copy for a close friend who is a partner in a large international marketing company. Whatever size shoe you wear-this book will be the correct size for you.

If you're lost and confused and not sure what to do with your money, please allow Orman to guide you on your way to creating a life filled with material and spiritual abundance. "The Courage to Be Rich" is one of those few books you run across, over the years, that you want to share with others since you've seen it work dramatically in your own life.

Thanks for taking the time to read my review. You can find more information by reading the descriptions and other reviews. I've not covered everything-far from it. What I tried to do was be as honest as possible and try to pursuade you for your own good!
