This is the book my cello teacher recommended. So I knew the entire product before ordering it. It's aimed at children but at age 65, I find it's an efficient way of getting started!

If you order the book by itself, I could see where one would be disappointed. However, with the CD the book is excellent. The book starts with a couple of simple exercises on the open A and D, then adds new notes with the fingering labeled. Very helpful for a beginner! Almost immediately one plays, and stick with me here, Twinkle Twinkle, HOWEVER, there are 4 somewhat rapid bowing patterns used, so right away you are learning rhythm and timing and fast bowing - all very useful things! In addition, it gets your ears used to the open string interval. You can tell by ear if those 2 strings are in tune. Starting on the next page, more simple melodies are introduced, and quickly one learns to count the beat and take repeats. Turn the page and you start using dynamics - crescendo, decresendo, ritard, etc. The songs are kind of fast, so you learn right away that you can't drag your feet, you have to keep up. This is real life in an orchestra - you have to count the beat, respect the dynamics, and keep up. This system is a huge help! I am using it in addition to the work I'm doing with a new and wonderful teacher, although I'm doing this on my own on the side. I highly recommend the book AND CD for anyone starting out, or even if you've been at it for a little while and are not progressing as quickly as you would like. It's also fun to have something to play along with, and to learn what it's supposed to sound like. It can get old just sawing away on one's own.

I have a 6 year old who has been taking violin lessons for 1.5 years and has now switched to cello. This method is simply amazing. Dont forget to get the accompanying CD. That teaches as well as they listen to it. I myself am not teaching my daughter, but a certified teacher is.

My 5th graders private instructor requested we order this book for her lessons as opposed to the normal school required cellist book. The book challenged our child in sight reading, fingering and advanced her well beyond her beginning peers. Suzuki is a great method to train the ear of budding musicians.

This book is horrible... unless I'm missing something. You will be much better off with "The Art of Cello Playing" by Louis Potter Jr. The other book to use for a companion to Potter's is "170 Foundation Stuties for Violoncello" by Alvin Schroeder.

I have only had the older style Suzuki Cello Books. I'm happy to find this revised edition at such a reasonable price and good condition. Great service!

There is very little instruction orminformation. Successful use of this booklet is dependent on quqlity instruction from your teacher. The booklet it self is esentially devoid of helpful information.
