4.0 out of 5 stars Helpful and comical book but poor binding quality
I got a great deal of insight into the Suzuki program. It was great to hear a description of what the program was like, especially the humor to it. My only complaint is that the book binding was poor, so each time I turned a page it tour out of the book. I need to have it rebound.

This review is from: Suzuki Parent's Diary: Or How I Survived My First 10,000 Twinkles (Suzuki Method International) (Paperback)
I was looking for more insight into how the author helped her daughter with the Suzuki process. I just started my son in Suzuki violin and since we don't know any other families with young kids taking lessons I was hoping this book would provide some insider info. Although it was a quick and somewhat entertaining read, the author spends more time detailing how intimidated she felt facing an instrument she had no personal experience with and glosses over many of the important aspects of Suzuki. I would have liked more info on the techniques she used to help her daughter practice. It almost seemed like her daughter almost always wanted to practice and never resisted. I find it ironic that at the beginning of the book the author describes a dream in which she is told that she must tell the world all the nitty-gritty details of a Suzuki experience and then goes on to describe very few setbacks resulting in what appears to be a smooth sail through the Twinkle variations.
Bottom line: Get a seriously discounted used version, or borrow it from someone else. I don't think it was worth the nearly $16 I paid for this un-insightful book.

3.0 out of 5 stars Quick read but lacks substance, January 27, 2010

This review is from: Suzuki Parent's Diary: Or How I Survived My First 10,000 Twinkles (Suzuki Method International) (Paperback)
This book is a very quick read. It is best for the parent who knows nothing about suzuki or is thinking about beginning. If you have read any of Mr. Suzuki's books, it will be a nice book to borrow from your teacher or another parent.
