5.0 out of 5 stars Very nice for beginners
Despite the previous review, mine arrived in wonderful condition and the tuners had been treated with something to make them turn easily (I guess that's a common problem with violins).

I had originally purchased a Cecilio, but I returned it after my sons violin teacher told me that it couldn't hold a tune and it was poor quality. He recommended a Suzuki. It...

3.0 out of 5 stars Good for beginners
A good choice for beginning violinists. The bow is of good quality for a student's violin, though the strings are lacking. The violin itself arrived in a timely manner; however, upon taking a good look at the violin, I noticed that one of the pegs was very loose and made it impossible to tune the D-string. The bridge is also of lackluster quality. The wood used was taken...

I had originally purchased a Cecilio, but I returned it after my sons violin teacher told me that it couldn't hold a tune and it was poor quality. He recommended a Suzuki. It arrived completely set up and it tune. The quality was much greater than the Cecilio. It has a lovey sound and my son's teacher is very pleased with it.

The wood used was taken from the outer, younger part of the tree, which means that it is very soft and that the vibration of the strings would wear it away very fast. I have replaced the strings and bridge and gotten the D-peg fixed.

If you are looking for a decent learner's violin, this is a good buy. The case is of good quality (as is the bow). As you progress, you will need to invest in a higher-quality instrument. Advice to buyers of this violin - replace the strings and the bridge.

My son has been using it for over a year with no complain at all. His teacher has also named it as *AN EXCELLENT PURCHASE*. Clear beautiful sound like a pro one. I am really happy to own it.

I bought this as a beginners violin, thinking that it would be of decent enough quality for me to fiddle around on... needless to say it came with everything mentioned in its packing and in wonderful shape... it just didn't have any real manuals... and it broke, not even a few days into playing it, one of the strings popped randomly... so... I would just buy a violin from someone you can walk up to and hold it in your hands first.

For a Beginner it is a very interesting piece of instrument. Gives good sound as per my Teacher.

I will recommend this to students who are planning to study violin.

5.0 out of 5 stars nice sounding, but not the best looking, January 21, 2010

It's been over 20 years since I picked up a violin. As a kid, my parents put me through 6 years of weekly violin lessons, which I hated. However, I miraculously made my way through the suzuki grading system and passed grade 8 on the volin. Those volins that I grew up with were all couple grand violins, and are now a continent away. Fast forward 20 years, not sure why, but I decided to pick this one up from Amazon to play some of suzuki's pieces for fun, and maybe pick up violin playing again.

This violin is not very pretty, workmanship looks so so, but once the strings (that came with it) are tuned correctly, this violin does sing very nicely. It has a very sound to it. Nothing cheap sounding, or loud and empty sounding. Note that of course the sounds a violin makes depends on more factors than just the violin, the bowing technique, and also the finger pressing technique, but this violin is worth every dollar I've spent on it.

Of course buying from Amazon is always a pleasure. Quick one day shipping, secure packaging, no worries purchase. I'm so happy with this buy. Practicing on it just makes my heart feel so happy. Thanks for reading.

Another quick note, the bow needs lot and lots of resin initially, so don't think it's broken when you try to bow and the sound is horrible, just be patient and give it more resin. (Like.. 20 mins of gentle resin application).
