4.0 out of 5 stars Awesome Book, August 19, 2007
By

This review is from: Suzuki Violin School: Violin Part, Vol. 2 (Sheet music)
This book is an excellent teaching book for anyone!
Here are the songs: Chorus from "Judas Maccabaeus" by G.F. Handel, Musette by J.S. Bach, Hunters' Chorus by C.M. von Weber, Long, Long Ago, by T.H. Bayly, Waltz by J. Brahms, Bourree by G.F. Handel, The Two Grenadiers by R. Schumann, Theme from "Witches' Dance" by N. Paganini, Gavotte from "Mignon" by A. Thomas, Gavotte by J.B. Lully, Minuet in G by L. van Beethoven, and Minuet by L. Boccherini.

I've only played a couple songs so far, and they are beautiful. I like the Suzuki method because each book gives you a solid foundation and a little taste for the next book to come. I have this CD that comes with it, and the songs are WAY too fast for me to play along with. Also, the book gives you fingerings above most notes, which is a little drawback.

The bottomline is that the Suzuki series is excellent and I would recommend it anyone beginning the violin! :D

5.0 out of 5 stars We listen to this CD all the time..., February 16, 2011

The Suzuki method is the "mother tongue" method. You learn music the way you learned language from your mother (or father, or aunt...). You hear the language or the music often enough, it becomes part of your fiber. Then, with nurturing, speaking the language or playing the music comes out naturally.

This CD offers your budding violinist the chance to hear a professional performance of each of the Suzuki Book 2 Violin pieces. Plus, when your violinist is ready to perform at full speed, the CD offers a piano accompaniment version of each song to play along with.

Once you get this CD, make a few copies of it and put the original away for safe keeping. We've worn out a couple of copies already! Keep a copy near every CD player you have and in the car CD, put it into your iPods, and let your musical student experience the music every day. If the music is in their head, they can focus on learning the technique they need to express the music through their violin.

The Suzuki method is a beautiful way to learn music. I highly recommend you find out about this teaching style and find a teacher qualified in the style. Get your child involved with music early - a head start can go a long way on the journey of music.

4.0 out of 5 stars Mine came with a bad case., December 20, 2011

The cd was fine. All twelve songs. Can't complain about the cd. But the case has a scratch AND the cover came off. By cover I mean the actual thing that opens. Although the cd was fine.

5.0 out of 5 stars Suzuki Violin School book, January 18, 2011

We love the Suzuki book, even if we don't perfectly use Suzuki method. It is excellent for introducing kids to the common repertoire, providing basic and progressive instruction, and developing the ear when used in conjunction with the CD recordings or repeat demonstration from a qualified violin playing parent. Really, the presentation of these Suzuki books is enjoyable, and the tunes pleasant to listen to once mastered.

5.0 out of 5 stars I still go back and play from this book, February 13, 2008
This review is from: Suzuki Violin School: Violin Part, Vol. 2 (Sheet music)
I grew up learning the Suzuki method and believe in it 100%. This should really be learned with an instructor versus being self-taught. Suzuki method is also a philosophy - look for the book by Suzuki himself explaining this. My violin teacher made all her students' parents read this when we started lessons.

This collection of songs not only is a good collection to learn various techniques on the violin, but I still have fun years later playing them over and over.
