More About the Author

Suzy Gershman is an author, journalist and shopping goddess who for the last 27 years has pioneered the Born to Shop series of travel guidebooks. Having just sold her house in Provence, she has returned to California and partnered with Amazon and Talking Frog Media to revise existing and write new Born to Shop titles.

The first new book, written with Sarah Lahey, is Born to Shop California Wine Country which will be available through amazon.com after September 1, 2010. Gershman and Lahey will follow up with books on Provence and the surrounding area (including Geneva and Barcelona), Asia (Tokyo, Kyoto, Bangkok, Manila, etc) and then the next edition of Born to Shop London, which will be ready pre-Olympics.

Gershman is currently living in Paso Robles, California, a small food and wine town she discovered while doing the research for Born to Shop California Wine Country. She is writing Merci, Madame -- something of a sequel to her memoire C'est la Vie, but a story about Gershman's house in Provence, the lifestyle in Provence and the Frenchman who asked for her hand in marriage.

4.0 out of 5 stars Suzy comes through, October 15, 2006
The last edition of Born to Shop disappointed me becasue Suzy Gershman's interest seemed so narrow that the stores and places she liked were too far out of my range. In this edition she's made some changes. Cheap shopping is listed and the luxe, nowhere else except NYC stores are listed as well. She must have gotten some younger helpers because much to my delight the Sean Jean store and and Triple Five Soul shop are mentioned too. One thing I've always liked about the Born to Shop series is that the advice shows you how to get around town safely, how to buy quality and how to have a good time with as few hassles as possible. And don't think this book is just for women. In our last trip to NY my husband frequently consulted it and was very pleased with the directions and commentary.

This book and Gerry Frank's guide are all you really need to take a weekend NYC trip.

5.0 out of 5 stars Good Shopping Guide, July 29, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
I bought this for a trip to NY with a shop-a-holic teen and it was very helpful. We marked the stores we wanted to go to and them put them on a map and off we went! Most descriptions were accurate although with any book about retail, some of the stores were gone. Because we had so many it wasn't a big deal. When this guide says to go to Century 21, you should GO!

4.0 out of 5 stars Shopping in NYC is not for the faint hearted, February 21, 2010
By
Suzee "Moving to Manhattan" (Portsmouth, NH United States) - See all my reviews
Shopping in NYC is not for the faint of heart - you could spend all your time searching for your store or going in circles - especially in the village. Suzy's book gives you a good idea of where to find items, and what you can find in the neighborhoods of manhattan. It's a great introduction to get your shopping trips in line, using your time wisely :)
