5.0 out of 5 stars Svatmanirupinam -- The true definition of One's own Self, August 5, 2008
This review is from: Svatmanirupanam: The True Definition of One's Own Self (Hardcover)
This basic exposition of Nondual Truth by the great Adi Sankara has been long unobtainable, and is apparently little known even among scholars of Advaita. It is a gem.

Although it is presented here in a scholarly format, with the Sanskrit, transliterations, and literal transcriptions of every verse, it is the four-line English versifications in plain but elegant English that will illuminate, for most of us, the philosophically impeccable essence of Sankara's exposition of Nonduality.

Who would be uninterested in such a detailed description of "one's own Self"? In one of his exquisite "mandala" poems (in Self-Knowledge) Nome has described the very preservation of Nondual Knowledge such as this as "Exquisite care and the most profound wisdom preserved in scriptures... To awaken from an ages long dream." Great reverence for the Nondual tradition is evident in every detail of this book, in the care and understanding of the Truth it preserves.
