Canooks can ROCK,

WOW!!! Although this was released in '92, these dudes managed to keep their sound well groomed with furious hardrockmetal. Skid Row comparisons are inevitable but miles more pounding and accessible. Blazing guitars and banshee like vox. All meat with little to no fat. This is a MUST HAVE for any hair metal library. Get it!!!!!!!!!!

Sven Gali were hailed as Canada's answer to Skid Row. I am here to tell you, they are not. I'm not saying these guys are'nt awesome, they are, but they are simply not as good as Skid Row.
Sven Gali's debut record is superb, the songs are melodic, catchy, and well written. However, like most other great bands of the era, these guys were simply pushed aside for the grunge revolution of the early 90's. Just about every song on this record is a winner, from the opener Under The Influence, Sven Gali hit you in the face and never back-off. Go buy this record, and see for yourself if they are as good...or better than Skid Row. I personally feel those shoes are to big to fill, but you may fell otherwise.

Canada's answer to Skid Row,

Canadian hard rockers Sven Gali hit the scene in 1992, part of a wave of second tier acts making a last grab at hair metal and melodic rock's waning popularity. The band had a style very similar to Skid Row, thanks in large part to vocalist Dave Wanless, who was a dead ringer (vocally) for Sebastian Bach.
Sven Gali's self-titled 1992 debut album is a hard hitting, very melodic rock album. Again I have to compare it to the first Skid Row album in that it struck the right balance between heavy and melodic, and featured some really impressive rock anthems (like Under the Influence). This kind of testosterone-laden rock album made for a welcome change from the chick friendly stuff Slaughter and Firehouse were releasing at the time. Unfortunately, 1992 was hardly the best time to be a new hard rock band. Sven Gali made an attempt to ride the wave of grunge rock with their 1995 follow-up album Inwire, but that just ended up alienating their old fans while failing to reach new ones. The band members went their separate ways soon after. Edition Notes: French reissue label Axe Killer reissued Svan Gali in 1999, giving it expanded liner notes and digital remastering. Unfortunately the reissue is about as hard to find as the original.

One of the Best Hard Rock Albums Ever!,

Although this Canadian quintet never became a house hold name, mainly b/c of the changing music scene in the early '90s, they were better than most of the '80s hard rock bands before them. They are similar to Skid Row, but distinct enough not to be confused with them. The comparisons are mainly b/c Sven Gali's singer's tone - and high, powerful screams - are similar to S. Bach's. The musicianship is decent on the album as is the production (major label had lots of $$$ for good sound). The album is very diverse with fast, up tempo songs like "Stiff Competition," "Here Today, Gone Tomorrow," radio friendly, catchy rock anthems like "Under The Influence," or "Freakz." There are two very nice, powerful & emotional ballads as well: "Love Don't Live Here Anymore," & "Whispers In The Rain." Check out some of the more moody/atmospheric songs like "Tye-Died Skies" & "In My Garden." The song writing is exceptionally strong. All in all, this album is filled w/ killer songs. If you are a fan of '80s hard rock/melodic metal, this CD NEEDS to be in your collection. It's just about flawless.

A bit of nostalgia for those of us in our early 20's,

I think the thing I like the most about this album, is not that it was radically different from any of the other music that I listened to in the early 90's, but that it reminds me of all of it. It really brings me back to my high school days, tailgate parties, and hanging out with friends. The music is great for just listening to, or for mood music.

The CD has both rock and slow more mood making songs. The main reasion I like the song's is that I had the tape but it was stolen and i was looking for the cd.
