Product Description

Turmeric (haldi) powder. Turmeric (haldi) powder. Turmeric is an ancient spice, a native of south east Asia, used from antiquity as dye and a condiment. The name derives from the Latin terra merita meritorious earth referring to the color of ground turmeric which resembles a mineral pigment. In many languages turmeric is simply named as yellow root. Spice description turmeric is the rhizome or underground stem of a ginger-like plant. It is usually available ground, as a bright yellow, fine powder. The whole turmeric is a tuberous rhizome, with a rough, segmented skin. The rhizome is yellowish-brown with a dull orange interior that looks bright yellow when powdered. Bouquet: earthy and slightly acrid. Flavor: warm and aromatic with a bitter undertone. Preparation and storage turmeric is mostly used in ground form. The powder will maintain its coloring properties indefinitely though the flavor will diminish over time so buy in moderation. Store in airtight containers, out of sunlight. Culinary uses : in India it is used to tint many sweet dishes. Apart from its wide use in Moroccan cuisine to spice meat, particularly lamb, and vegetables, its principal place is in curries and curry powders. It is used in many fish curries, possibly because it successfully masks fishy odors. When used in curry powders, it is usually one of the main ingredients, providing the associated yellow color. Attributed medicinal properties turmeric is a mild digestive, being aromatic, a stimulant and a carminative. An ointment base on the spice is used as an antiseptic . Turmeric water is an Asian cosmetic applied to impart a golden glow to the complexion. Cur cumin has been shown to be active against staphylococcus aureus (pus-producing infections).

I use this Turmeric every day in a calming tea like it was recommended on the Dr. Oz show and it's wonderful. 1 cup almond milk, 1/2 teaspoon. Turmeric, 1/4 teaspoon. Ginger, 1 Teaspoon. Cinnamon and touch of Honey. I don't care to use it in savory dishes, but this warm beverage is just delicious and relaxing before bed.

I do not use this spice to cook. I use it to make a face mask due to the antioxidants, along with chick pea flour and almond oil and bit of milk. It does wonders for the skin. I have combination skin and this helps with breakouts and oil control. I use it weekly and since i've began using it gives my skin a youthful glow and elasticity. I recommend you try it.

Bought this for all natural alternative to treat osetoarthris/degenerative joint disease. Heard alot about the benefits of the Indian spices and herbs for this. So gave it a try. Takes a bit getting use to, but if you incorporate a little at a time & don't over do it, you won't need salt & you'll begin to taste food in a different way. Curcumin is wonderful for oseteoarthritis & DJD benefits for decreasing the inflammation process. It is so much better for you than prescription pharmaceutical drugs, which only cripple you more!

I ordered the turmeric because I was tired of paying a big price for a tiny container. This product is a great value for the size and the money spent!

In addition to being a table spice, turmeric is reported to have excellent health benefits. Some people say it has cancer-fighting properties. It's been known to help people with residual nerve pain after a bout of shingles. I pour some on top of my food and mix it in. I like exotic spices, especially curry. Turmeric is pretty strong; quite pungent, almost bitter, but it's okay as long as I also add ginger, curry & cinnamon to my food.

Turmeric stains dishes though, and even silverware, but the stains are easy to rub off with a baking soda & water paste. Be especially careful around fabrics. I accidentally got some on a white tee, and the spot it made was bright yellow. I decided to 'dye' the whole garment by soaking it in a turmeric & water solution. Then I put it outside to dry, but the sun bleached it a very pale yellow, so I was happy with that. Luckily it was just something to wear around the house.

Excellent quality & quantity for exceptional price--in bulk vs pills is the only distractor, but I use a teaspoon in my blender of juicing each morning & it's helping my rheumatoid arthritis
