Coming from a reliable brand, this moong dal is a great product. This is the split, shelled mung beans. It lacks the nutrition from the skin, but it has many uses. It can be powdered at home to make a skin cleanser powder. The powder mixed with oil or water can be applied to skin for radiant, smooth glow. If mixed in water, the paste sticks to the skin-it is an effective, old-fashioned dry mask.

In the kitchen, a one-dish multi grain, nutritious meal can be made by mixing different grains and cooking them together. Or extra long grain rice and split mung beans can be cooked together, half and half. This gives the `moong dal rice' a pleasant white and yellow color. There are nutritious `kichari' recipes available widely, well worth trying. It also makes a tasty 'dal', with the right spices!

I made a dal recipe that was published on NPR's website with this moong dal, and it turned out perfectly. I couldn't find this at my local grocery and rather than make a trip to a specialty store, I ordered on Amazon. I'm looking forward to making more dishes with this--there are no pebbles or any debris, it is perfect and clean as is.

We bought this from amazon because we wanted to avoid a trip to the Indian grocery store. Its definitely very expensive here compared to buying it in store. The bad thing was that It looked like the packaging was done long time ago. The moong dal was not fresh and had a strange smell to it. We had to throw it away after tasting it once. Avoid.
