Nice blanket, but...,

When preparing to have our first child I bought one of each kind of swaddle, not knowing what we would like the best. We've also tried the standard 'receiving' blanket and some nice stretchy ones. This one we liked the least. My baby wiggles a lot when settling for sleep and every time she moved she would hear the velcro coming apart a little and it would bother her. She had a very hard time falling asleep in it. The Miracle blanket works best for her because it does a better job at keeping her arms down than others and doesn't have noisy velcro on it. I've also tried the sleep sacks. As she's getting more and more arm control I'm finding that she is slowly liking the "Halo Sleep Sack" better, but at night she still needs her arms confined. I also like the sleep sack idea because it is only one layer of blanket (where this SwaddleMe is two in the front when closed. The other thing I didn't like about the SwaddleMe or the Miracle Blanket is that with my baby's wiggling she invariably ends up with a gap between the feet sack and the top part and since we tend to use t-shirts rather than onsies her belly gets exposed and cold. So, I wouldn't recommend this for an active, noise sensitive baby.

Good for tiny babies, but not big ones...,

It's a very cute blanket (especially the teddy bear velcro tabs!), but as another reviewer has stated, it shrinks in the wash. My big 9-lb boy used it maybe two or three times before he didn't fit in it anymore. I finally put him in the large SwaddleMe today and he fits just fine (11 lbs, 23 inches long).

Essential Baby Item,
This review is from: Kiddopotamus SwaddleMe 100% Cotton Flannel, Small, Sage Gingham (Baby Product)
When my daughter was born, I didn't know about swaddling, and it would take me HOURS to get her to sleep! I would feed or rock her in my arms until she falls asleep, then put her in her crib... and she'd flail her arms, wake up and cry, and I had to start all over! What a nightmare! Then I figured out that since her arms wake her, it would make sense to wrap her in something so she couldn't move them as much... so I started wrapping her in regular receiving blankets. It worked! It became much easier to get her to sleep. But then she wiggled out of those receiving blankets and wake up again. When she was a little over a month old, somehow I came across SwaddleMe blankets on the Internet and immediately bought it. It worked like a charm! It was so easy to wrap my daughter in it, and it stayed put. My daughter started sleeping so much better! I wish I found those blankets sooner - it would've saved me from so many sleepless nights! 2 years later, my son was born, and thankfully I already knew about those blankets from the start. He goes to sleep great in the SwaddleMe blanket! Out of curiosity, I tried to put him to sleep without this blanket, and his arms wake him right away - exactly the same as my daughter! I consider this blanket one of the most important baby items you could buy. It should be a must for a new mother who wants to get some sleep!

Works ok for a while, but doesn't grow with your baby,

The SwaddleMe blanket seems good in theory, and reasonably priced, but what makes it easy to use is also its design flaw. The velcro pads and length limit the use of this thing to after newborn until about 2.5 months for an average size baby. This may be ok for your baby, but I plan to swaddle my baby beyond this age.I got this in a Small and it was HUGE on my 6lb newborn son. The velcro tabs extended way beyond the gripping pads and left his shoulders/arms all hanging out and loose. I would return to the crib to see the blanket had shimmied its way up and over his face. (Dangerous! I did not like that, and I almost ceased to use the blanket from that point forward...) After a few weeks he grew into it and it worked fine, nice and snug, and baby slept well. Then at about 2.5 months, he grew to be average length/weight according to his pediatrician. In the SwaddleMe, his legs more than reached the bottom of the pouch and the velcro tabs didn't make it around his upper body. Also, the flannel has very little stretch. Pros: + Works well for about 6 weeks or so + Light weight flannel + Only slightly easier than wrapping a baby with a competitive swaddling product or regular swaddling blanket Cons: - Not for small newborn babies or average to large 3 month olds - Short-lived; it doesn't grow well with baby - Velcro tabs kind of tricky to use; leaving the bottom tab secured seems to make it easier to use. I recommend the Miracle Blanket instead if you want a "pre-swaddled" blanket. (Though I would say both the SwaddleMe and Miracle Blanket allow a lot of room in the leg pouch for kicking...) Or, the flat SwaddleDesigns ultimate receiving blanket instead.

Love it!!,
This review is from: Kiddopotamus SwaddleMe 100% Cotton Flannel, Small, Pink Gingham (Baby Product)
I have used this with my daughter for the past four and a half months. My husband and I are huge fans of swaddling because our daughter has been sleeping for 9 to ten hours a night when swaddled. i just wish they made it a little bigger. My girl is 26 inches long and quickly outgrowing it. This was one of the best gifts that we have received.

Busting out!,

This is a great product for a few weeks, then the velcro gets really weak and your child will be busting out! I go in to find my son with both arms out and one leg out. No matter how tight I make the blanket, the velcro comes apart. I encourage you to buy their other SwaddleMe blanket with the larger velcro flap.

I prefer Miracle Blanket. Don't forget Harvey Karp DVD!,

I bought this item and the Miracle Blanket - Periwinkle Blue at the same time. Initially, I thought the SwaddleMe looked easier to use and was clearly was cheaper, but I find that I am using the Miracle Blanket almost exclusively. The two velcro tabs on the SwaddleMe are harder to manipulate than I thought they would be, especially with a struggling baby, and swaddling several times a day. In my opinion the Miracle Blanket is overall simpler to use. The Miracle Blanket accommodates all sizes, so it can adjust to baby's growth, and may be a better purchase/gift if you don't know how big the baby will be. Both of these items leave room for baby's legs to move, which is good. (Supposedly, restricting leg movement puts the baby at risk for abnormal hip development.) Don't forget Dr. Karp's DVD The Happiest Baby on the Block - The New Way to Calm Crying and Help Your Baby Sleep Longer (DVD) because swaddling is only one of several steps to calming your baby. This is my second baby and so far, it's been a much better experience than with my firstborn. I didn't know about these techniques back then and my first baby's constant inconsolable crying made me absolutely miserable.

So much better than the Miracle Blanket,

This review is from: Kiddopotamus SwaddleMe 100% Cotton Flannel, Small, Blue Gingham (Baby Product)
We bought this one first and it worked very well until my son outgrew it. So I decided to try the Miracle Blanket since it can be used for bigger babies.... I hated!! It is very difficult to wrap it around it and he does not sleep as well. So I decided to buy the next size up of the SwaddleMe blanket instead, peace again.I returning the other blanket, at $30 a pop not worth it. This is much cheaper and it works much better

Lifesaver,
This review is from: Kiddopotamus SwaddleMe 100% Cotton Flannel, Small, Blue Gingham (Baby Product)
I bought this when my little guy was a couple weeks old because he is a champion squirmer and could extract himself from any swaddle, and then become mad about it. I was a little reluctant because of some negative reviews on here, but we couldn't afford anything pricier and i really wanted to try something. The first time we used it my husband and mother-in-law swore it was too small (he was about 10 pounds then). But after a few days of staring at it and nearing tears in my sleep deprived frustration, I decided to try it for myself. With a little stretching I got him in with no problems, and he has been happy ever since. Now, at 13 pounds, the velcro doesn't all meet up because it is indeed a bit small, but we are planning to buy the next size up. This really saved our lives, he sleeps like he never did before.
