An Affordable Way to Store Your Bikes...,
By
This review is from: Swagman Hang It Bike Hanger (Sports)
I am very pleased with this bike holder. The shipping was quick, and it's free! This is the perfect space saver for a small area. It was very easy to install; it took maybe 10 minutes. You just turn the pole and it secures itself to the ceiling and the floor, screw on the bike rests and you're done! No screws are necessary though the rack does have holes for them should you choose to attach it that way. We have two bikes on it and there's no problem with the weight. If you bump it the bikes will swivel a bit so there is a little give in it. The one piece of advice that I could give is to make sure that you are hitting a beam in the ceiling before you screw it in tightly. We almost made a hole in the ceiling before we checked. Good luck!

its ok,

not too bad. Its really really easy to install, ships super fast. Only complaint I have is that the angle tighteners do not tighten the whole way, so basically they just rotate and the bike balences on them. I was not aware of this when I bought it. It looks good and is pretty sturdy. No problem holding two bikes, there's more than enough room. Just having the actual bike holder part not tighten is a upsetting.

Poorly Designed,
This review is from: Swagman Hang It Bike Hanger (Sports)
Don't buy this hangar for anything other than sheets and towels. The product is very poorly designed, and poorly constructed. First of all, you cannot crank the the top and bottom screws tight enough to secure the rack, between the floor and ceiling, without bending the pole. In addition the pole comes in two sections with two differenct diameters - a small diameter chrome plated section that telescopes inside of a larger diameter painted piece, but the attachment cleats on the hangars can only be tightened over the larger diameter section, making the top section unusable. The weight of my bike was enough to rip the hangar off the chrome section, causing it to fall to the floor, even though I cranked the knob as tight as possible.

Pleasantly Surprising Ease of Function and Aesthetic Appeal,

This is one of the very few tools that I have purchased that is worth the money that I paid for it. My favorite feature is that it can be temporary or permanent and can be transported easily. It is light weight and not obtrusive by any means.
It came mostly assembled with only very few pieces that needed to be attached. The rubber pads measure in at around 2 1/4" x 8" (just an eye-ball estimation) and offer ample support and grip on the floor and ceiling. They are screwed into the top and bottom and have reversed threads so that you can really fine tune the amount of pressure you want on the apposing surfaces just by turning it right or left. Once in place, this thing won't budge and looks great. The hangers attach and adjust very easily for all different sizes and weight ratios. Once everything is where you want it, all that is left is to tighten and admire. There is only one thing I can think of that would be better and that is a lever system in place of the reverse threads to do the final tightening. If you could get the pads where you want them and then just pull a handle that would lengthen the pole to take up the slack space with a preset pressure. Think the reverse of vice grips. You know when it gets to that max pressure when you squeeze it and then gets easy the rest of the way. Something like that. One important thing to note. As other people have mentioned, the hangers don't grip the pole with a death hold. If you pull down on them hard enough, they will slide down. The only method I can think of to remedy this if it is a problem for you is to use some 80 grit sandpaper to rough up the poles. This would give their surfaces some tooth, though you may increase the chances of rust occurring. All in all, I would just make sure not to stress the hangers and make sure to not yank of them or pull on them when they are tightened. I gave this a 5 star rating because I feel that the versatility, quality and price-point make this the best bike hanger out there.

I bought this a few months ago to clear up some space in my apartment (I have a road and mountain bike). I am pretty happy with the purchase and haven't had any issues since I originally set it up months ago. Things to note and may be why I've had a better experience than others with this unit: on the bottom I have carpet and on the top is that nasty popcorn ceiling. Both I assume make for much more stable surfaces than others who have tried this thing on smoother surfaces. Additionally I too was a bit concerned about the holding power of the top hooks and it is true the clamp tends to slide if the bike is too heavy. I remedied this by mounting it and then putting a small wooden dowel beneath it on the back in one of the tube's many square holes. You can also use a small pencil to do the same thing. This points to the back and is unnoticeable. My bikes are really expensive, so I also covered the hooks with old black socks. Obviously I am more interested in this thing as a utility rather than on aesthetics however for most people the socks over the hooks may be overkill.

All of the glowing reviews of this product would be accurate except for one thing - the hooks will not clamp onto one half of the pole. So effectively, this is a 1 bike hanger unless you have tiny bikes. The pole has two sections, a thick tube for one half, and a significantly thinner tube for the other half. The clamps will not even come close to holding on the thinner half. Both the pictures on this site, and the diagrams in the instructions show that you can clamp onto both halves, but this is NOT so. This issue is mentioned in one of the other reviews as well, and appears to be a design flaw rather than a manufacturing problem with the one I received.

We've had it for about a year and things are going well so far. The only problem is that one of the knobs for the bike hangers are difficult to tighten enough. This means that if the bikes aren't hung perfectly balanced, they can tip forwards or backwards a bit. But there is no threat of the bike actually falling off the hanger. We don't regret buying it for a second.

Easy to assemble, Easy to use. The smaller, upper pole does seem to be a bit wobbly and the holders still swivel no matter how tight you crank em down. Despite these minor annoyances, it does it's job holding two bikes without a problem and with no worries it's all going to come tumbling down on you.

I purchased this product for 2 mountain bikes that I needed to keep inside my rental apartment, without doing damage to the walls or ceiling. Works great so far. It is large enough to hold 2 full size mountain bikes and sturdy enough so that you feel confident nothing will come crashing down in the middle of the night. I would recommend bracing it against a ceiling beam however, for extra security. My only small complaint is that after removing the front tires so that the front handlebars would lie flat against the wall, the bikes are difficult to balance. The tightening screw that is supposed to control the level of the bikes once they are affixed to the bar does not work at all. It was a balancing act, but I was able to get them to work in the end, even with 1 tire off.
There was one reviewer who said that you cannot attach 2 bikes, but that is not the case. 2 Bikes easily fit and hold up well. Overall, a great product and a good price.

I was in need of a product that would a) take care of my two bikes, b) not require screwing hooks, etc. in the walls and c)look at least half-way decent in my apartment. I got all that with the Swagman Hang It Bike Hanger. It was easy to set up and it is easy to put the bikes on and off the rack. I created more floor space (vs the bikes standing side-by-side) and it actually looks good in my city apartment. I'd recommend this anyone with similar criteria as I have. (Good price too.)
