5.0 out of 5 stars Awesome album - reissue screw-up has been fixed now
About the music, I won't say much. Sadus is a great hyperspeed tech/thrash band. If you're on this page in the first place you've probably already heard someone else's ringing endorsement. I second it.

About the reissue, apparently there was a serious screw-up where the wrong album's songs were on this CD. That has now been corrected, and new pressings of the CD should be correct. So order with confidence. I just got mine and it is, indeed, "Swallowed in Black." (If you buy a copy and want to verify that, go to http://www.metal-archives.com/ and check it against the lyrics listed for this album on Sadus's page.)

5.0 out of 5 stars THEE IMORTAL SADUS!!!, May 5, 2005

Aahhh....
the glory days of Bay area thrash.
these guys where the somewhat more intellectually orientated purveyors of the aforementioned music genre;intricate, complicated time signatures coupled with thought provoking(not devil provoking)lyrics.
i suspect most didnt "get" Sadus,as they arent mentioned much, then or now.
in any event,if ya run across this, pick it up - you'll thank me later!

5.0 out of 5 stars "the world..is going..straight down the tubes oh well", May 27, 2005
This review is from: Swallowed in Black (Audio CD)
DESERVES 10 STARS!!!!!!!! the masses make me sick .inflating the heads of generic acts like limp bisquick ,kream korn & linkin pork w/ insane record sales. most of which have less than a handful of good songs that saturate the airwaves & end up crowding the shelves of used cd shops. they're getting rich while bands w/ mad talent, like sadus, have to travel abroad to find an audience & their cds slip out of print.sadus are not cappable of releasing crap.every song is a masterpeice!!! i HIGHLY reccomend "swallowed.." but if you ai'nt got the cash there are 5 tracks off it on "chronicles of chaos" for about $30 or $40 less. saduss'first 3 efforts were released on the roadblock label so cross your fingers for "illusions" & "swallowed.." 2 from the vault. but don't hold your breath.

1.0 out of 5 stars Big mistake on this release, February 2, 2007
This review is from: Swallowed in Black (Audio CD)
This release has a big mistake. The songs that this CD contains are the nine tracks from "Vision of misery" album + 2 bonus tracks instead of the eleven of the original album.

Great reviews here so far!!!!!!!

I have this on tape..got it for about 3.00$ a couple years back! I hope to get this on cd cheap too but they are vultures on Ebay these days!! a roadrunner two on one of this and ''VISIONS OF MISEREY'' would be nice..but they(ZOGRUNNER) deserve a HATE bom* for keeping this from us for all these years!! THEY ARE CRIMINALS!!

This is one of the most important DEATH/THRASH/BLACK metal albums..and YEAH ZOGRUNNER HAS IT OUT OF PRINT!!!!!!

This was the follow up to the KILLER ''CHEMICAL EXPOSURE''(orig titled Illusions) but they uped the SPEED on this one!! this is like some of the fastest MUSIC you will ever hear..its faster than a million of those amtrack trains all at once!! OR IT SOUNDS LIKE 300 TANKS DRIVING OVER YOUR HEAD!!! IMPRESSIVE HATE!!!

BASS god Steve Digorgio(who slayed on AUTOPY'S ''SEVERED SURVIVAL'' )got his start in this band!! and he shows his best skills on these first albums of his carrear!! ALL HAIL STEVE!!

I know you can find this on tape!! SO GET IT AND ENJOY!! I KNOW YOUR NOT A POSER IF YOU LIKE THIS BAND..THEY HATED POSERS!!! HENCE THEIR DEMO TITLE ''DEATH TO POSERS'' HAHA..

ALL HAIL FUKKING SADUS!!!!!!!!! AND THE OLD SCHOOL METAL SCENE!!! this is THE album to own by these guys as well!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Hands down best Sadus album! Best metal album of 1990?, July 13, 2005
By
This review is from: Swallowed in Black (Audio CD)
This album is good, no scratch that, THIS IS REALLY GOOD. I'm saying this and I have quite a collection, i.e. hundreds and hundreds of Thrash albums and this one sticks out as one of the best.

This was Sadus' first real album since "Illusions" was not distributed on a large scale (luckily reissued in '91, but only because Death had become big and Steve was bassist for them then). I remember I (very intelligently) got this on CD when this album came out (back when CDs were like $17-$23 a piece new.)

What is the listener treated to? Great Thrash/Death Metal with odd time signatures, technical work, pounding drums, great bass lines. This is all kept together by the fast pace and Darren Travis' shriek shrill vocals. Steve DiGiorgio, simply the best bassist in metal period (only the guy from Forced Entry comes close...by miles away), a man who is on his own plateau sporting his fretless Carvin, Rickenbacker, or ESP 5-string bass. Now who plays a fretless bass in metal? No one except for DiGiorgio, and he along with Jaco Pastorius are my favorite bassists.

Despite the albums fast pace, there are change-ups and slower tempo breaks and choruses. The guitar work of Travis/Moore is great with verses and excellent with those screaming solos which are always well placed. The bass is interesting because sometimes it is faster than the guitars, sometimes a little bit slower, and at other times just on time with the axemen. The lyrics are serious and thought provoking likes the song about how people see themselves, "Images". Very rare in either the Thrash or Death Metal genre.

Favorite songs, "Last Abide", "The Wake", "Images" and "False Incarnation". Another favorite is "In Your Face" with the hilarious line, "...I see you got a problem, I see you want to die!" Great memories. If your a maniac about good Thrash or Death Metal, do yourself a favor and get this album!

5.0 out of 5 stars Classic technical speed metal!, June 29, 2005
This review is from: Swallowed in Black (Audio CD)
I remember the day I bought this on tape. Way back in 1990. I had heard so much about this band from zines and the underground network (pen pals) I had to get it. I remember first hearing this and thinking, "wow, these guys are tight and soooooo fast!" Of course the band would (sad to say) be nothing if Steve DiGiorgio was not in it. His insane chops on a fretless bass is amazing. I mean come on. At that time it was totally unheard of to hear a fretless bass in speed metal. Unheard of. But man DiGiorgio is so talented it makes the songs all the better.

People who are entertained by Cynic (the Roadrunner 3 song demo style), Atheist, Watchtower will love this. Its so technical at times you will be in awe. Just listen to Black. Listen to those bass lines! HOLY! Yeah yeah, sad to say this is a bass guitar driven band. Think of Primus but NO not the music. The two guitarists are both proficent and talented and of course the drummer is extreamly tight and talented with all the fills and offbeats and cymbal catches.

Now what gets me is today people are selling this CD for $32-40 USED/OPENED. Granted you will not find this anywhere brand new but you can find it on P2P. I was lucky enough to find it used at a local shop for $7. So people that are asking for $32 well, that's insane. I even found Illusions on CD for $8 at another store used a few years back. I now know not to sell them!

But seriously, this was a very memorable CD. Even the artwork is killer!! If you can track down a used copy at a "reasonable" price do not hesitate to pick this up. It should be in the history books of metal!

5.0 out of 5 stars Fantastic remaster to a classic, March 17, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Swallowed in Black (Audio CD)
Swallowed in Black is my favorite Sadus release. Saw them on the S.O.S. tour back in the day, sadus, obituary and sepultura. Metalmind's remasters are all excellent and I think this may be the best one, or one of the best remaster. The main reason is I always felt the original sound of this release was a little muddy sounding. The remaster juices up the volume but also makes it crisper sounding. Instruments sound much better and the drums and guitar really sound razor sharp on the remaster. This is such an awesome release that was made that much better by the remaster. 24 gold bit cd remaster, you cannot go wrong with it. Blows the original sound away..
