That is the word "delightful" for the books and the video. They are technically childrens stories, but they are fun, and well acted.

This video, and it's pair, "The Big Six" are great. My 9 year old daughters and my wife and I really love these. They do a great job capturing the feeling of the Ransom stories. While my daughters and I are currently reading the Ransom stories, I think these videos would be great for virtually any child. The combination of relating to the independance of the children and a vision of a different, simpler time make these videos very appealing. I can't recommend these enough!

5.0 out of 5 stars Coot Club & The Big Six -- first-rate videos for 6 - 10, December 10, 2002

These are charming stories, among the better ones that Ransome wrote, and the video productions are excellent and very faithful to the books.

Grownups may see a certain "Masterpiece theatre" english period-piece air to them. Kids addicted to wham-bam cartoons may find them slow-moving. But the stories have Ransome's wonderful ingredients of families of kids having real sailing adventures together, strong roles for girls, enough action (these are the more action-filled of Ransome's stories) to satisfy all but the jaded, and plots that don't disturb parents. One of the things I like about Ransome's stories is that the kids don't take foolish risks as a device to move the plot.
