Swamp Grass isn't the grass you think!,

This review is from: Swamp Grass/Douglas James Kershaw (Audio CD)
Doug Kershaw shows his unique talents on this collection of cajun songs. I own the original LP and it is great to have it remastered in this CD. The title song, "Swamp Grass," reflects Kershaw's roots in the bayous of southern Louisiana and delivers a powerful message of environmental awareness. Loved it back in the early 70's; love it more on a CD!

I got turned onto Kershaw's music in the late '60's and bought all of his stuff that I could find and as it was released. These are both great albums. Douglas James Kershaw may not be what a lot of fans expect fom one of his albums, though. Don't get me wrong, it's one of my favorite albums of his because it's so lavishly produced and a little "stoney". I've wondered for years who mad the suggestion that they go that route with all of the orchestration and heavy production. Was it Warner's idea? Was it Buddy's or Chips or even Doug's. No other album that he did was in this rarified method. It's a gorgeous album with some very interesting songs. Try to hear it first before buying is all I'm saying.
Also very worth buying is Devil's Elbow (one of my favorites), the double box of Doug Kershaw/Mama Kershaw's Boy and Ragin Cajun. Forget all the "best of" collections. These albums each are full of great songs.

I have been looking for the Swamp Grass album for years. I was listening to it when I was a Kid in the 70's. If you like cajun music it is for you.
