Editorial Reviews

The hidden world of the Atchafalaya Swamp is their Eden. It's a terrain where nature rules - and history lives. Master gator hunters Troy Landry and Junior Edwards return for a second season of survival Cajun-style deep in the bayous of the Louisiana wilderness. Danger and excitement abound, along with a rich tradition of language, food, music and generations of shared family experience. A colorful cast of characters use techniques dating back to frontier days to live off the land, catching everything from frogs to squirrels and raccoons. Men who make gumbo and snag gators with their bare hands make HISTORY every day on SWAMP PEOPLE.

5.0 out of 5 stars Just a Louisianian Who Loves This Show August 23, 2011
Format:DVD
As a Louisiana native, this is hands-down one of the best reality shows that I've had the pleasure of watching. I have a soft spot for the Atchafalaya Basin, and have always enjoyed many aspects of Cajun culture.

What makes Swamp People stand apart from other shows is the terrific cast of characters, and the banter that takes place between them. Living in Southeast Louisiana means knowing someone who lives a stone's throw from a cast member, and can vouch for their authenticity. Conversations about Season 2 with locals will largely involve who their favorite hunter is, and it's never an easy decision (someone give the Guist Brothers their own show).

If I had any complaint about the show, it would be that there are a couple of scenes in Season 2 that are noticeably scripted. From T-Rex being dragged in the boat already tagged (S2E8), to Bruce falling in the water (S2E3), there are a few groan-worthy moments. But that been said, Swamp People is still a far cry from the obvious acting I've seen in plenty of other "reality" programs.

Season 2 covers a short time in the lives of real Bayou folk just doing their everyday thing. Gator hunting is much like shrimping down here in that it's a job that keeps the bills paid. What makes this show enjoyable is the unexpected, but mostly the camaraderie and conversations.

I love that Season 2 offers a glimpse of just one of many cultures of my state to people worldwide. Definitely add this season to your collection.

3.0 out of 5 stars great to see on dvd but- January 15, 2012

As happy as I am to se Swamp People on dvd I am actually disapointed with the final product. The shows itself are wonderful to watch but Im talking about the dvds themselves. Again as with the first season dvd there is no Play all feature included for watching the episodes.
And the really weird thing is- the bonus features on the dvds DO have a play all feature. You would think that the history channel would add a play all feature like that with such a popular show.
Overall the show is wonderfull to watch- I just wish that the History channel would finally start adding Play All features to their episodes as well as their bonus material

5.0 out of 5 stars Shoot 'em! Shoot 'em! February 25, 2012
Format:DVD|Amazon Verified Purchase
I purchased both Season 1 & Season 2 of Swamp People. This series is one of those guilty pleasures that you enjoy watching (but may not always admit to!) My whole family is now hooked on Swamp People. The distinctive yell of, "Shoot 'em! Shoot 'em!" rings through my house whenever an episode is played. (Even my Dad gets into yelling!) Each of the Swampers has a very distinct personality and watching how the season progresses is entertaining. Who would've thought hunting alligators would be so interesting? The historical information about gator hunting & the cajun and swamp culture is well done. The History channel did a great job of showing the historical, cultural and economics aspects of life in the Swamp. I would recommend the series to anyone who likes hunting/fishing shows and quick-paced action. Just one episode & you'll be hooked!

I do not care for RJ & Jay Paul, although the only shot I saw Jay Paul miss (that could've been due to clever editing, who really knnows) was yards away in open water. Read more
