Book Description

Fall, 1863

Phailin is not your typical personal guard to the King of Siam. This royal protector of secrets finds herself intrigued by a guest of the British Ambassador’s, the enigmatic John M. Alvey of the Ministry of Peculiar Occurrences, and his quest for a swan possessing mythical powers…

Tales from the Archives are short stories set in the world of the Ministry of Peculiar Occurrences. They explore events mentioned in the novels, characters seen and unseen, and may include novel teasers of things to come.

5.0 out of 5 stars A touch of fantasy with your Steampunk April 26, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition
The story is told from the perspective of Phailin, a palace servant to the King of Siam, not an agent of the Ministry. Her story describes her encounter with several guests to the palace included a Ministry Agent by the name of Alvey. When a gift to the King turns out to be a steampunk trap, the secrets begin to "fly" as both Phailin and Alvey learn more and more about each other. The encounter helps Alvey discover that what he is seeking might be closer then he thought.

For those who are fans of the Tales from the Archives series will not be disappointed with this tale. Those who are fans of fantasy will find this a great stand alone tale and hopefully a stepping stone into the world of Steampunk.

4.0 out of 5 stars Excellent Colonial Steampunk December 11, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition
Excellent bit of colonial Steampunk. I thoroughly enjoyed it and would like to see more of its like. That is to say, use the popularity of the genre to show other cultures' myths and legends to its audience. The sun never set o nteh Empire. Show us that!

5.0 out of 5 stars A blend of Asian fantasy and British steampunk November 1, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition
Beautifully told short story, very much in the style of Asian legends. A maiden who is not what she seems and an agent from the Ministry of Peculiar Occurrences combine forces to stop an assassination attempt on the King of Siam.

One question I have is if Miss Owens in this story is the same person as Anna from "The King and I"...???

More About the Author

Born and raised in the North East, PJ Schnyder spent her childhood pretending to study for the SATs by reading every fantasy and sci-fi novel she could borrow from the local and school libraries. She scored fairly high in the verbal portion.

She was introduced to the wonderful world of romance a decade later by her best friend at an anime convention in Seattle.

She now lives somewhere temperate watching the seasons go by with her two dogs and super stealthy ninja kitty, writing her stories.
