Truly Amazing!!,
By Ben M (MN) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Swan Songs [Explicit] (MP3 Download)
I can't say enough about this album. When I first heard their single "Undead" on the radio about a month ago, I was hooked. I bought their album after checking out some of their other songs on YouTube, and now the album hasn't left my player since the day I bought it. It is the only thing I listen to right now.
I am not a fan of rap and this band definitely has rap splashed across their style, but it works and it works really well! Many of their lyrics are extremely vulgar and offensive to the point of being comical. Most of these lyrics are in songs about partying, drugs, and sex, so it fits well. Other songs provide powerful lyrics about their lives, relationships, and the messed up world around them. All-in-all, their words are powerful when they need to be and good careless fun when they don't need to be. Atop their well chosen lyrics are catchy beats and great tunes. I've been waking up with one of HU's songs stuck in my head almost every morning lately. There is not a bad song on this album. I love them all! I have been introducing many people to this band and everyone has been impressed. A little about each song (with a rating out of 5): 1) Undead (5/5) - My favorite on their album, clearly mixing the melody from Ozzy's "Crazy Train", but enhancing it with their own musical style 2) Sell Your Soul (4/5) - Good song, more rock based, favorite part is when it breaks away into "my heart beat stumbles, and my backbone crumbles..." 3) Everywhere I Go (5/5) - Great song. Definitely one of those songs based on partying, for example "when the cops show up, they're gonna get the finger, and I don't give a f**k, cause I'm the designated drinker!" 4) No Other Place (4/5) - Good catchy beat, lyrically a little weaker than their other songs, but the lyrics are still catchy 5) No. 5 (5/5) - One of my favorites, makes me want to take a shot and pop a 40! 6) Young (5/5) - One of their best songs, more rock based, powerful lyrics and powerful beats 7) Black Dahlia (5/5) - Also one of their best songs, powerful lyrics about a relationship gone awry, "I used to be lovestruck, now I'm just f**ked up" 8) This Love, This Hate (4/5) - Good song, has a very "hip-hop" Linkin Park sound to it 9) Bottle And A Gun (4/5) - Good song, good catchy beat 10) California (5/5) - One of the songs that gets stuck in my head, great sound 11) City (5/5) - One of my favorite songs, dark lyrics about the destruction of the city, "the city looks so pretty, do you wanna burn it with me?" 12) The Diary (5/5) - Also one of my favorite songs, great beat and really good depressing lyrics about a life wasting away, "I f**kin' swear that I care, but it's hard when you stare, into the bottom of a bottle, that is empty and bare" 13) Pimpin' (4/5) - Good song, good catchy beat 14) Paradise Lost (5/5) - Great song, deep lyrics about life and beyond "Just let me burn, it's what I deserve, God of mine, am I lost, in your eyes?" These 14 songs weren't enough, I checked out some of their unreleased songs and was extremely impressed with those too. Songs like "Circles", "Pain", and "The Loss", are so good, it makes me wonder how they didn't make the album. If there is anything I would complain about with this album is that these songs weren't included: A) Circles (5/5) - Really good but sad song, uncharacteristically soft B) Pain (5/5) - One of their best songs, I have no idea how this didn't make it on the album! C) The Loss (5/5) - Great song about suicide, "I won't cry, it'll be fine, I'll take my last breath, push it out my chest, 'til there's nothing left" This album is the best I've seen in years. It meshes together many styles of music in a unique and extremely catchy way. It is like Linkin Park meets Beastie Boys with a side of Eminem. I highly recommend this album, or this band in general (since so many good songs haven't even been released). This album is a "must-have"!!

Between ICP and Eminem lie Undead Hollywood,

I'm not a huge fan of hip-hop/rap so I get excited when I find something I can enjoy. These guys have the sarcastic edge and frivolity of ICP with the clever backhanded 'lyrics' that make me enjoy the Slim Shady. They add to this a solid musical base that really demonstrates these boys aren't just playin', there is some real musical aptitude here. I haven't been this excited about a band since I discovered the Skanking Pickles (RIP you beautiful jello heads)

Great Album,

I love the album, especially Diary, Pimpin', and Paradise Lost (pretty much all the new songs are excellent. I would have taken off a star because I'd have liked the cd to include some more light hearted songs like Btches, Turn off the Lights, Scene for Dummies etc. These can easily be found online so who am i kidding throw the HU up!
