I've always believed that you get what you pay for. While I still think that is true, I was very pleasantly surprised by this camers because it gives you WAY more than you pay for. At this price point I was honestly expecting image quality that resembled some cheap web cam from the dollar store or something. The specs on the camera looked decent though so I figured it was worth a gamble.
I originally bought it about 6 months ago and paid $30 total shipped to my door. Since I was pretty sure it was going to be junk, when it arrived I unwrapped it and hooked it up to my TV before I wasted so much as 5 minutes trying to mount and install it. I hooked it up and was blown away with how good the video quality is. Within a week I had installed it and have since added 3 more of these exact same cameras to my system. The image quality you get out of it is just amazing for 30 bucks. You can clearly make out faces and it doesn't have lines all over the screen.
As some have said the black plastic housing does feel super cheap in person. For $30 if you were expecting a solid metal housing AND a decent camera then you are completely delusional. The cost savings had to come from somewhere to sell it so cheaply and still make a profit. Thankfully they didn't skimp on the camera chip. The good news however, is that unless you HOLD the camera and feel it you would never know it was thin cheap plastic. Once it is mounted it looks kind of bad A$$. It looks EXACTLY as the picture on Amazon shows it. Despite feeling kind of cheap, it seems to actually be pretty tough. Mine has been mounted for 6 months in Texas and has survived a few thunderstorms and 2 hail storms with no incident. So in reality, the cheap plastic housing really only matters if you plan on holding or dropping this camera a lot which should not be an issue for anyone if they use it as intended.
The night vision is also AWESOME however you will need additional infrared lights to see more than 10 feet away clearly. The ones built into the camera only work WELL within about 10-15ft of the camera and everything else is black. Using your standard porch light or flood light won't work because in night mode the camera ONLY captures images from the infrared light spectrum. If you use this camers indoors or if you are using it within close proximity, such as a front door cam only, it will work perfectly. This is pretty much the same for ANY night vision camera in any price point. There are only so many LED's you can wrap around the lens of a camera. LED lights are very directional lighting. I have added an infrared illuminator, mounted right next to the camera at my front walkway and with the additional flood of infrared light, this camera records everything just as clearly as it does during the day, just in black and white.
So in summary, I can't say enough good things about this camera. This is one of those deals that I wouldn't have beleieved unless I had experienced it myself... getting MORE than I paid for and more than I expected!!!! A++++++
