Swann Red Alert looked like a good product, but more than 6 weeks after purchase, I had yet to have it working. After 7 contacts to Swann by e-mail and telephone I was finally issued authorization to return it for exchange which I did the same day. I finally received the fixed unit 3 weeks after that. The Red Alert Wireless System seems to be a good system when it works, but Swann's Support and Customer Service is lacking until you really get their attention.

Yes, it does what it says it will.
But...
The interface is horrible and has to be reset every time you put the SD card back in, it records way too much information, even when you set the motion sensitivity intelligently, and at least one of the channels totally hosed up my home's wireless internet connection. Also, you have to be really finicky about exactly where you place the unit, and the output is also touchy. It is built horribly
I kept it because it's the only game in town, but if there was another product available at this price point that did this, I would surely get that instead.
Also, the first one I got arrived broken. I tried to contact tech support with absolutely no luck.

This kit is an utter piece of junk. I installed this package at a relatives house b/c someone keeps vandalizing her property. It was simple to install and also not too difficult to configure but thats the end of its pros. The video quality from the camera is absolutely useless for the night vision. Even when someone is standing a few feet from the lens the picture is so grainy that it is impossible to identify any facial features. The software cannot be set such that motion detection actually works. It is either too sensitive that it captures shadows or too insensitive to not capture a slow moving vehicle.
When someone recently stole some property from her home we thought that the unit would have captured some evidence that could be provided to the police but we discovered that the unit had reset itself resulting in zero pictures being stored.
Don't waste your money on this heap of crap.

Not Good
Bought one of these less than a year ago. Worked great for awhile. Then, in view mode, it would only show a blue screen. Swann was initially helpful and I returned the item. Read more

too expensive
I was going to buy one at Amazon until i found a Fry's store in Portland for $79.99 verses $121.27 from amazon even though its not the best kit for Red alert. Read more

Useless as a DVR

Great security or monitoring system for the money!
I love this cheap little system-it has video and AUDIO! I've had no problems with mine but I did read the manual and set the sensitivity to 5 as well. Read more

I think there is a little confusion on this DVR. Most every review is Bad and that is not the case.

Buyer beware!!!!!
This is nothing more than a poor quality nanny cam. If there is even a minor power blip the unit quits recording and has to be reprogramed. Read more
