5.0 out of 5 stars Better than it's baby brother
If you have ever used the 7" Speed Square or a framing square, you will find this to be the best of both worlds.

All the features of the Speed Square, but bigger. All the utility of the framing square but smaller.

I use it a lot for cutting 1x12 boards. And making backside pitch cuts on plywood.

3.0 out of 5 stars Heavy Duty, but Lacks Etched Markings (Wide Stamped-Less Accurate)
Heavy weight aluminum alloy has a matte forged look with large molded markings (2-3 times size in width compared to tape measure markings). [Would be better if polished finish with etched markings, which are far more accurate.] I would not rely on markings for any work requiring very accurate measurements-not possible with this speed-square. OK for general construction...

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent!, April 29, 2002

The originators of the Speed Square still make the best ...... and the 12" is the best of the best. Solid construction and easily read markings that won't wear off like paint set it apart from other brands.

This works as a Tri Square, Miter Square, Protractor, Line Scriber, Saw Guide and Stair Guage! I guess the "seventh" tool job it performs as is a straight edge! It comes with a movable layout bar to fit out of square corners. The numbers are big enough to read and just an all around good product. It comes with a handy pocket sized booklet with useful information and INSTRUCTIONS for use.

OK for general construction use. It is very large, but the size makes it more usefull for general work where one has to draw uninterrupted lines.

This square is big. I used to think it was too big. Then I started using it as saw guide whenever I cut 12" Shelving. That seems to be the true calling for this square. Probably would work great for cutting big rafters too but isn't that what a framing square with gauges is for? The seven inch model is much more practical

Good tool for any box. Just be sure to keep the bolts tight when you add the bottom piece so they will not come off and get lost.

This square is big... B I G. Not as portable as the 7" version, but more versital in many ways. At this size it functions perfectally as a saw guide as noted here by others. It performs a variety of duties as noted in the blue booklet that comes with it. It is sturdy, accurate, and the numbers are easily readable. I recommend this size over the 7" size if you don't have to carry it from place to place.

I've posted a more detailed review on the 7" model, which I also use. Both have their place and both are cheap. Great product. I can't even remember the last person I ran into doing framing that didn't use one.
