With these issues resolved, you are left with the most impressive portrayal of tactical squad action in the first-person shooter genre to date. Set in the near future in Los Angeles, you are placed at the head of a five-man armed response team of the LAPD. A conference on world peace plays the backdrop to justify all the crazies coming out of the woodwork. This provides you with a stream of linear missions ranging from hostage situations to disarming missiles, all set in real-life locations.
While the likes of Quake 3 and Unreal Tournament offer "all-guns- blazing" action, subtlety is the order of the day in SWAT 3. A single bullet can put you down. With no health pack round the corner to come to your rescue, you need to employ guile and teamwork to survive. Unlike similar games, such as Rainbow Six, the teamwork isn't planned prior to the missions; rather it is managed on the fly with a number-driven tiered command system for your two-man teams. It works beautifully for the most part, and with a scaleable AI, you can ensure both your compatriots and the suspects put up a convincing display. This, combined with superb audio that blends information and suspense through radio chatter, well-modeled graphics, and tense gameplay, makes SWAT 3: Elite Edition a worthy addition to any gamer's collection. --Jason Weston

great game,

This review is from: Swat 3: Elite Edition (CD-ROM)
I used to hold Rainbow 6 and the likes as among the best game of its genre till Swat 3 Elite Edition came out. At last a game that is realistic, where you actually try to arrest bad guys instead of lodging a bullet or two right between their ears. The controls are easy to use, the sound and picture are of really great quality plus the missions are well done. What else could we ask from a game? Buy it now and you won't regret it. Roger that!

Swat 3 revisited,
By William McCurdy (Winthrop, MA United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Swat 3: Elite Edition (CD-ROM)
Christmas 1999 - My brother-in-law presents me with Swat 3, the original version. Not a bad game, just short. I thought to myself "This game is DIEING for multi-player", but oh well, I finished it in about a week and kinda forgot about it. Moved on to other drugs like Code Name: Hitman and The Rogue Spear.Flash forward to Nov 2001 - I'm looking for the NEW game that won't leave me wanting to burn my PC in to a smoldering hunk of metal like World War II On-Line has (...). I buy Operation Flashpoint. Not bad. Kinda buggy, the multi-player is....ok. I'm still craving more. I run across a review of Swat 3-Game of the Year version. "Hmmm" I think to my self "Swat 3 was a good game but "Game of the Year"?!?! What year?". I start looking deeper in to what "Game of the Year" means. Seems that Sierra Studios has updated Swat 3 three times! and since I had the original version I could upgrade for free!!!! So unlike other software manufacturers who charge for relatively small "upgrades", Sierra Studios upgrades (and dramatically changes the game for the better) for free! This game now ROCKS!!! I love FPS games like Rogue Spear and HATE Half Life/Quake/Doom games. I need realism, one bullet to the head and you die. That's a game! With Swat 3 you have that realism. One of my favorite things about this game that I wish other games would incorporate is the way bullets react to solid objects. If I have a M16 and I shoot at a wooden door the bullets would pass right thru and strike whatever was on the other site, but if I fire the same gun at a brick wall, the bullets would not penetrate. It makes it very interesting to hide in a room and to watch the bullets rip thru the wall right next to your head from a fire fight out side! The co-op levels of the game where you have to go in and rescue people or disarm bombs are great. Lots of team work breaching doors, stacking up and rushing in to a dark room after the flash bang goes off! Man! What a good time! But some times I feel just like running around in Man's Chinese Theater and blowing Perps away with a shotgun, and with the Deathmatch/Last Man Standing levels they added you can do it!

ADDICTED to SWAT3,
By A Customer
This review is from: Swat 3: Elite Edition (CD-ROM)
Exciting game for players who wants to fight and use their brain simultaneously. You can be a killer but you must be a good commander too. I've been playing SWAT3 for 6 months and I still feel emotions starting missions. Do not worry at first time when you are fresh with all the functions, equipment etc. Try them with no purpose to win the mission. NOW SWAT3 Elite offers new, longer missions and multiplayer functions. So now you can have fun with Real opponents, but remember: Artificial Intellingence works nice either. If you are going to buy download the demo first and check whether it is GOOD TO BUY for you ! 2115|R21BUB838Q5XPB;2115|R3VV8WPHSHEVS0;2115|R3389VRJ62DFHA;
