5.0 out of 5 stars great game
I used to hold Rainbow 6 and the likes as among the best game of its genre till Swat 3 Elite Edition came out. 2.0 out of 5 stars Great Idea-Flawed Game
If you're looking, as I was, for a Counterstrike substitute, keep looking. Ultimately what kills this game is playability. The game play is not engaging. Graphics are lacking a bit--look at the way that everything LOOKS like a flat surface with a texture layed on it. Ultimately thats not a big complaint though, it looks passable. It's just not that fun.

5.0 out of 5 stars Swat 3 revisited, November 29, 2001

Christmas 1999 - My brother-in-law presents me with Swat 3, the original version. Not a bad game, just short. I thought to myself "This game is DIEING for multi-player", but oh well, I finished it in about a week and kinda forgot about it. Moved on to other drugs like Code Name: Hitman and The Rogue Spear.

Flash forward to Nov 2001 - I'm looking for the NEW game that won't leave me wanting to burn my PC in to a smoldering hunk of metal like World War II On-Line has (...). I buy Operation Flashpoint. Not bad. Kinda buggy, the multi-player is....ok. I'm still craving more. I run across a review of Swat 3-Game of the Year version. "Hmmm" I think to my self "Swat 3 was a good game but "Game of the Year"?!?! What year?". I start looking deeper in to what "Game of the Year" means. Seems that Sierra Studios has updated Swat 3 three times! and since I had the original version I could upgrade for free!!!! So unlike other software manufacturers who charge for relatively small "upgrades", Sierra Studios upgrades (and dramatically changes the game for the better) for free! This game now ROCKS!!! I love FPS games like Rogue Spear and HATE Half Life/Quake/Doom games. I need realism, one bullet to the head and you die. That's a game! With Swat 3 you have that realism. One of my favorite things about this game that I wish other games would incorporate is the way bullets react to solid objects. If I have a M16 and I shoot at a wooden door the bullets would pass right thru and strike whatever was on the other site, but if I fire the same gun at a brick wall, the bullets would not penetrate. It makes it very interesting to hide in a room and to watch the bullets rip thru the wall right next to your head from a fire fight out side! The co-op levels of the game where you have to go in and rescue people or disarm bombs are great. Lots of team work breaching doors, stacking up and rushing in to a dark room after the flash bang goes off! Man! What a good time! But some times I feel just like running around in Man's Chinese Theater and blowing Perps away with a shotgun, and with the Deathmatch/Last Man Standing levels they added you can do it!
So basically if you are looking for an incredible FPS with killer Mulit-player/Deathmatch, this is the game for you. Also since the game is getting old the price should be falling.

5.0 out of 5 stars ADDICTED to SWAT3, December 25, 2000
By A Customer
This review is from: Swat 3: Elite Edition (CD-ROM)
Exciting game for players who wants to fight and use their brain simultaneously. You can be a killer but you must be a good commander too. I've been playing SWAT3 for 6 months and I still feel emotions starting missions.

Do not worry at first time when you are fresh with all the functions, equipment etc. Try them with no purpose to win the mission.

NOW SWAT3 Elite offers new, longer missions and multiplayer functions. So now you can have fun with Real opponents, but remember: Artificial Intellingence works nice either.

If you are going to buy download the demo first and check whether it is GOOD TO BUY for you !

An overall badass game. The interface is very well done, contains all the orders needed to run a SWAT team, but it's not too complex so even the casual gamer can figure it out. Great graphics, much better than Rainbow 6. This is a, as I stated before, great game, great sound, great graphics, and lots o' shootouts make it fun as hell. Sorry for the concise review but I can't sum it up any better without using incredible vulgarity, and lots of hand gestures.

5.0 out of 5 stars Best FPS ever, December 24, 2000
By A Customer
This review is from: Swat 3: Elite Edition (CD-ROM)
This is the most realistic game of it's kind. AI is unbelievable and the levels are very detailed. If you're looking for a game where you just go around mindlessly shooting people, this isn't the game for you. Tactics and strategy play a very big part. You give on-the-fly orders to your teammeates and try to bring everyone (including suspects) back alive. And like the title says BEST FPS EVER, I don't know how anyone can give SWAT 3 a bad rating.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great Game, October 24, 2001

SWAT 3 is a good game. The game play is fun and the graphics are great. It has realistic missions and characters (suspects, hostages). The only thing I really didn't like about it was the crosshairs for the guns. It would have been nice if they included just a plain dot. They have an option where you can choose which crosshair to use, but the dot for a crosshair that they had was way too small for my liking. Another thing that was hard about the game is the gradients. It jumps from easy missions to hard ones. I found myself wanting to bust my monitor, but I decided to take a break before I lost my temper. Overall a very fun game with great scenerios.

5.0 out of 5 stars Eyes on and provide Cover!!, July 30, 2001

This game is by far the best thing that has hit the market EVER! This is no alien blastin' jet pack wearin' silly space cowboy mumbo jumbo...THIS IS THE REAL DEAL!! I mean, the action is great, the controls are very easy to manage...and the freakin' gameplay is super. I spent countless hours playing online in DeathMatch, Coop, LastManStanding & Team DeathMatch.

One crucial factor is the MOD downloads you must obtain and utilize correctly to truly get the most out of this game. The ChimeraV1.0 MOD is really all you will need. This makes the game better by offering many more cool weapons and also different "skins" for your SWAT member to wear (theres even a [...]little babe you can be if you choose to mix it up a bit!)Also with Chimera the blood is ALOT more graffic.

If you tend to enjoy exotic tobacco blends, and cold domestic beers, then this game is most certainly for you. One word of WARNING...Dont let the kids look over your shoulder while you play, because this type of thing could really screw up their heads (with the violence and such!) Buy this game (and a comfy computer chair). I have a serious gaming rig --so I can't comment on if this will run well on your PC or not.

4.0 out of 5 stars A good solid FPS, January 24, 2001
By A Customer
This review is from: Swat 3: Elite Edition (CD-ROM)
Lots of people want those games where you just shoot everything in sight. Some people like teamwork and strategy. SWAT 3 delivers both in a good form. It comes from a more realistic perspective, no health and ammo powerups around the corner guys! It is fairly flexible in single player mode, with 7 different weapons to choose from. You can also get the low down on all of your other gear too! Single player is more teamwork than shoot 'em up. However in multiplayer you can play deathmatches(of course!). Also you can choose from over 50 weapons in multiplayer. The only things wrong with SWAT are: 1. The storyline in single player isn't detailed enough for me. I might be picky though! :) 2. In multiplayer Co-op, after you finish a mission, you are taken back to the main lobby. If you want to do the next mission with the same guys, you gotta set the game up all over again! 3. No game controller support!! ( I have the Gravis Eliminator, and it comes with software you can use so you can use it)

Overall a very good game, but these small problems made me give it a 4.

Oh by the way, my uncle is in SWAT. And he is on the cover too! (No kidding!)

4.0 out of 5 stars Good gameplay, runs on almost all systems, etc., July 19, 2002
By A Customer
This review is from: Swat 3: Elite Edition (CD-ROM)
SWAT 3 has great gameplay, combined with good controls and a realistic AI. Also worth noting is that the AI enemies are placed in random locations throughout the maps, allowing for more interesting replays of missions (the bad guys aren't always in the same spot!).

Another thing that's worth noting is that the game will run on almost any system (Celeron processor? No problem!). I've personally observed it running at fast rates on fairly old computers that have Celeron processors.

The only downside to the game is its infamous last mission. The last mission tries to force the player to move quickly through the map (due to a timer), in a failed attempt to delay the time that it takes for someone to complete the game. This only results in the last mission not encouraging the player traits that are so heavily encouraged in previous missions: patience and strategy.

Over all, though, it's a great game. I highly recommend that you buy it.
