Editorial Reviews

Deadly bacteria! Doomsday devices! Robotic spiders! Sound like a big budget sci-fi thriller? Nope. Even better. It's the 5-Disc, 26-Episode Swat Kats: The Radical Squadron Complete Series Collection. Chance Furlong and Jake Clawson appear to be ordinary junkyard auto mechanics until trouble occurs in Megakat City. In a flash they fly their high-tech Turbokat toward danger as T-Bone and Razor: the Swat Kats. The city is run by the power-hungry Commander Feral and his militant team of Megakat Enforcers. Jake and Chance were once Enforcers but Feral demoted them to working in the scrap yard, where the Swat Kats were born. They take on any kind of menace from the undead sorcerer Pastmaster to lobster-like alien warlord Mutilor. The hardware-heavy action never stops in this animated fan-favorite from Hanna-Barbera Studios that's fur-flying fun!

This is not a perfect product. The episodes have not been remastered, some credits are misplaced, there are no bonus features, the presentation of the DVD menu is half-assed, and it is very obvious that this set was released with one goal in mind: to finally shut the fans up while making money in the process.

That said, I. Love. It.

Yes, production on the DVDs themselves are crap, but oh Lord, I cannot accurately tell you how I have pined for this, desired it. The moment I heard SWAT Kats was being released on DVD, I broke open my piggy bank with a hammer and collected the means with which to make my dreams come true. I regret nothing. I worried during the delivery period about whether or not this series would stand the test of time and meet my unfair expectations. I worried in vain. Everything I loved about the show is here: T-Bone, Razor, Commander Feral's chin, dinosaurs and skeletons, mummies and aliens, Hard Drive and the Red Lynx... It goes on and on, and my fangirl heart basked in every glorious moment.

Great artwork for the time, memorable characters, plenty of action, one of the best rock intros of the '90s, and hilarious handwave science. Some might be concerned with the level of violence within the show (the very thing that got it canceled despite being highly rated), but I wouldn't worry too much about showing this to your children. Any parent concerned should probably watch beforehand and make that decision themselves.

Fans will weep tears of joy, new viewers will be glued to the screen, and Warner Bros. can keep my money.

The lazy production of the DVD set is the only thing holding my rating back from being a 5/5, but this is a must have.

SWAT Kats debuted on TV back in the early 1990s and to me it was one of the best shows that aired during that decade. Although it only had two seasons along with only twenty five episodes, plus one special that was done for the show. The only thing was that the show was cancelled before they could get all the episodes aried or even a good ending. With this DVD release it brings all those episodes onto a 5 disc set for anyone that grew up watching this show and I have to say that all the episodes are here in this set. Only thing that I wish that those unfinished episodes would've been finished so those episodes could've been put with this set if they were unable to air them. I can say that this set will bring back memories for anyone growing up with this show and for those who may not get the 'Boomerang' station. This set would be worth if you don't have that station or don't have a DVR to record each airing.

The animation for the show I'd say is top notch for it's time and one thing that I never seen done in any other animation show is that all episodes are directed by one person. There is only like one minor complaint that I may have with this collection is that there isn't any bonus features with the set like behind the scenes or anything like that. It would have been a little neat feature for that if they could've had something like that but don't let that stop you from picking up what could be the only release of the SWAT Kats on DVD. With this collection I say that it's worth picking up and overall I give this collection 4.5 stars out of 5.

I have to agree with the one reviewer that the dvd itself, lack of an in depth menu, the feel of the company kind of just tossing us a crudely put together dvd made in less than 30 minutes just to shut we the fans up, only so-so slip cover art ( man, they didn't even bother to use the official SK logo! ) is what's keeping me from giving this a full 5 stars.

But I'll be perfectly honest, I didn't buy the dvd for the shiny extras, I bought it so I could get my desperately needed SWAT Kats fix again, since Boomerang hasn't shown the series in a few months ( that, and Boomerang doesn't air all of the episodes ).

This is the BEST remedy, every single episode, exactly as I remembered them! GREAT mini stories for every episode, FANTASTIC action sequences and animation for it's time, great voice acting, characters that you grow easily attached to, and come on, JETS AND HEAVY METAL! I just wish they had the chance to finish the series. But at least with SWAT Kats, even though it was cut short, one can imagine their own stories in the way that each episode was made, and it wasn't cut off at a HUGE critical moment ( coughcoughPiratesofDarkWatercoughcough ).

I'd have NO problem showing this to my little nephew and niece. It's the stuff I was raised on, and really, I'd rather them watch SWAT Kats, Biker Mice from Mars, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Cowboys of Moo Mesa, and the Pirates of Dark Water than most of the overly disgustingly fluffy stuff that's geared towards kids today. Good old fashioned action cartoons are what's needed again! And SWAT Kats has it! X3

Since this is a Made On Demand title it means there's no extras, let alone menu or scene selection or Subtitles. But the Quality's good and I always wanted it on DVD so yeah I got it.

It was a few years back, that they were showing re-runs of this cartoon on Boomerang, and because I saw something rather familiar and I decided to watch, and I couldn't believe it, a show that I used to love as a kid, a show that I had forgotten so much about after all these years, A rush of all my memory just fills my mind. I decided to watch to see if I will still like it, or if it will turn out cheesy and be one of those "I cannot believe I used to like this garbage" scenarios. There is nothing worse than having a relic of your childhood destroyed when you realize it's terrible watching it as an adult. Thankfully, this is not the case as I watched, and I adored it. This is definitely an animated show that holds the test of time. The animation is well done, and it may come off as one of those American shows that tries to be an anime, but it does so with honor, it's something different and I truly believe it deserves to be adapted into an animated film. I was also reminded of how bad cartoons are now.

I'm not that old, to be honest. I grew up with Saturday morning cartoons and after school marathons of not just Anime, but American productions as well. Somewhere around the mid 00's, I started to notice that there were less and less cartoons I wanted to follow. Besides some anime shows, there was nothing else worth following. Even Pokémon wasn't worth following at this point. But I want to focus on a time before that. Like this one.

What you have here is an excellent animated series that rises above its peers. What is so well done is the deep, complex characters that are solid and leaves you wondering about their origin and wanting more.
