Information on socio-economic issues in contemporary Swaziland is not always readily accessible. This work aims to fill that gap, especially by including research-based contributions by Swazi scholars. Swaziland is of particular interest in respect of, for example: issues of culture and development, especially gender and fertility; the special characteristics of small states; and regional development in Southern Africa. Swaziland faces some problems found generally in developing areas, but others are distinctive. The cultural dimension to development is given particularly close attention throughout.
