Editorial Reviews

Amazon.com

This is quintessential Richard Simmons: motivating, quirky, and fun. Like the others in the Sweatin' to the Oldies series, you dance to '50s and '60s hits with a live band and a bevy of colorful, enthusiastic fellow exercisers of all shapes and sizes. You'll kick up your heels at Pop's Diner to songs such as "Respect," "My Boyfriend's Back," and "Locomotion." If you're overweight or a beginner to exercise--or you know someone who is--this video is a terrific motivator to get active. You'll love the large exerciser in pink who sings "Big Girls Don't Cry" (she has danced off 110 pounds, we learn at the end) and the Elvis impersonator who does "Jailhouse Rock." If you grew up in the '50s or '60s, you can't listen to the music without wanting to get up and dance. The exercisers dance down the floor at the end, flashing their weight loss--check out the guy who lost 704 pounds! (57 minutes total includes 27 minutes of simple low-impact aerobics and 12 minutes of light toning, such as arm exercises holding soft-drink bottles, plus warm-up, cool down, and stretch.) --Joan Price
