As an avid basketballer (and now an old man) I have been a devotee of the Swede-O ankle braces for more than a decade. Did use the kind with the plastic splint that fit in the side pocket. Sometimes uncomfortable as it chafes the ankle bone. This model uses straps instead, that criss cross the ankle and velcro to adjust. I have used for a month and they are more comfortable, yet still as stable as I need. A little more work to put on, as they are more snug than the other model, and the other old men get impatient waiting for me to strap it up. But it is worth it when I later watch them writhe on the floor and grab their Swede-O-less ankles.

This is my second brace of this type. Gives good support. Machine washable. I wouldn't go completely by shoe size when purchasing. The volume around your ankle needs to be part of the equation. I wear 10 2A shoes and found that the XS brace fits my ankle the best - as I have really low volume feet/ ankles.

My son injured his ankle at the start of basketball season. We bought this brace to help support it and he was able to play all season. With Tennis season starting, I could no longer find this brace in the store. I was thrilled to find it through Amazon and now both ankles will be protected!

As other reviewer said, this is slim enough to fit into shoes. It takes a bit of time putting it on and taking it off as the fit is VERY tight; tight enough that you need to remove laces from top 3 holes to take it off.

However, once you put it on, you feel your ankle is well-supported and you can concentrate on whatever the sports you are doing. This brace uses dual supporting methods: laces and "figure eight" strap. The instruction says to put the laces up first and then adjust the strap. Well, when you put the laces up, it creates a tight fit which makes it difficult to adjust the strap. What I do is to adjust the strap first, then finish up by tighting the laces up.

Overall I am happy with the product. If you do sports with a lot of rapid lateral movements (like soccer), this is a very good product. However, if you are looking for some support for other less intensive sports, this may be a bit too much.

I bought 2 ankle supports in hopes that they would help me stay on my feet for a week long vacation at Disney World. I can report that they made the difference. During earlier trips I was frequently forced to sit down and rest. Once I was sidelined and couldn't even walk for a day. With these ankle braces I was able to walk comfortably and still had energy left for the walk back to the bus at the end of each long day.

The braces are difficult to get on and off and to lace up. There are also straps that you pull to tighten the brace once you have it in place. At the end of the day they are difficult to get off. I was grateful to have an understanding wife who helped me in the process.

While I complained at the process I do recognize that the braces were designed to give me the support I needed. I already have a drawer full of easy-to-get-on support braces that don't work. These are sturdy and effective.

If you have ankle problems and need solid support I can readily recommend these braces ... they served me well. And they will again.

Good firm support. A little hard to put on because you have to loosen all of the laces just so but its worth the extra time.

The brace has OK support. Not the greatest but then again, it is a soft brace. However, it is really difficult to get off the foot as compared to my other brace.

This brace was recommended to me by a physical therapist when I was having problems with the tendons on the bottom of my foot. This helped give me better support while the tendons healed. As other reviewers have said it is difficult to get off and on but for me this was a small price to pay to ensure that my foot healed properly.

I am very disappointed in the material. I hadn't used the brace for a couple years. My foot started bothering me again so I tried to put it on and I discovered that the material that wraps around the front of the foot had degraded. It has some sort of rubber/stretchy material and it has turned into a gooey mess. I am disappointed that the brace now has to be thrown away.

I had a severe sprain from playing hoops and was unable to walk for 2 weeks and I am still suffering 3 months later. Doctor said 1 more month of therapy. I was hoping this brace would reduce the pain as compared to my aircast and allow me to do more. I don't think that is the purpose of the brace (reducing pain when moving). To me it seems a mild way to brace up ankle and prevent rollovers--- Next time i would want something with a much tighter wrap around the ankle.
