During my own studies and while teaching massage to others I became keenly aware of the limitations of trying to recreate and practice a movement using written notes. Too much was lost in the translation from visual, tactile, and kinesthetic to verbal and then back again. It seemed a no-brainer to take the first massage I had learned in school, one I had practiced on thousands of clients and taught to hundreds of students, and put it on videotape, for use as a teaching aid or as a stand-alone tutorial.

Fortunately I had some friends in the video production business who were able to realize my intentions exactly as I had wished. The result is a tape that teaches a professional quality version of what is probably the most popular western massage form, which anyone can learn, regardless of experience. It is comprised of over a hundred distinct movements, which I have taken care to demonstrate in sequence, without a single one left out. That is to say, if the left leg is done the same way as the right one, I nonetheless demonstrate both. This means it is possible to perform the entire massage all the way through the first time, although repetition of the various segments into which it is clearly divided is the only way properly to learn and memorize it.

I hope this will continue to provide people with a useful skill to share with family and friends, and to motivate others to pursue professional studies.
