Only Louis Armstrong and John Coltrane have had as dramatic an influence on other musicians. Broadly considered as one of the greatest saxophonists of all time, he was crucial in the development of the bebop movement. Many of his compositions have… Read more in Amazon's Charlie Parker Store

5.0 out of 5 stars A great Parker record, January 25, 2000
By A Customer
This review is from: Swedish Schnapps (Audio CD)
I think this is my favourite among Parker records. I guess he plays just as fine on other, earlier recordings, notably for Savoy and Dial in the fourties. But the sound quality on this record is so much better than on earlier ones. And the accompaniment is so good. Listen to the drive of Ray Brown who plays on a couple of tracks. It is also nice to hear what a fine trumpeter Red Rodney was, he plays just as fine as the young Miles Davis (who also plays on a few tracks). Any Parker fan must have this record (my personal favourite is a Japanese edition where the beautiful Town Hall of Stockholm is depicted, well-known for the Nobel Dinner every December).
