Surprising results!,
This review is from: Sweeney's 9012 Mole and Gopher Twin Pack Sonic Spikes (Lawn & Patio)
With three acres and six garden areas, I was over run with moles. I bought a set of Sonic spikes at a local store in desperation, we had hundreds of tunnels by the beginning of March. I was sure I was wasting my time but not my money as I knew I could return them. I saw my new 100 Daffodil bulb area, planted in the fall was getting damaged so I placed one spike nearby. I walked on the tunnels in a 20 foot circle to see if there would be more activity and also between the grape vines and a garden site.Me and my brother were very surprised to see no new tunnels in the last 3 weeks in maybe a 30 foot circle around each spike. I have come to Amazon to buy more spikes as the local farm store is out of them. You have to make a hole in the ground to insert the spikes and I could see them being easily damaged if forced. These spikes are great, I did not have to poison or kill them and that makes me feel good.

Save your money,

These mole stakes are absolutely worthless and definitely not worth the $30+ price tag not to mention the extra $10 you'll waste in batteries that you can't return. They claim to drive away moles and gophers within 14 days of installation. I gave them 21 days before completely giving up and returning them. If anything, the mole activity increased after installing the sonic spikes.I have a semi-wooded ½ acre lot and end up doing battle with the moles every year, but they have been the absolute worst in 2008! I figured I'd try the sonic spikes this year as I have a friend who swears by them. Unfortunately that wasn't my experience and after reading several reviews of similar products, the Sweeney's Mole and Gopher Spikes appear to be equally as worthless as all of the other brands. I'm going back to my old standby, Juicy Fruit Gum. Follow the mole run and make a small hole every 10 feet or so. Drop in a fresh stick and cover the hole. The next time the little bugger goes down his run, he'll eat the gum and die because he can't digest it. It's much cheaper than sonic spikes and pesticides, less of a pain than traps, and has been the most effective thing for me at significantly decreasing the mole activity.

Get rid of gophers,
By
This review is from: Sweeney's 9012 Mole and Gopher Twin Pack Sonic Spikes (Lawn & Patio)
These things were easy to put together and seemed to have worked like a charm. I am not gonna lie, they are hard to dig and place, in really hard soil you have to work to get enough of a hole to put them underground, but once they are taken care of and in the ground they work. There is a high pitched whine as they go off, but if you bury them it isn't like you hear it often or even at all unless you are right next to them. They are one afternoon (if that) worth of work and then forget about them. Easy and quick and take care of the problem without traps that you have to clean up or cages that you have to get rid of.Good luck!
