5.0 out of 5 stars A great educational video for foreign language classes!
I have used this video in my Spanish classes for two years, and it is a wonderful way to introduce the Latino tradition of the quinceañera to kids not familiar with it. What's even better is that it is a good way to talk about issues like maturity and responsibility and what it really means to "grow up." It is also a great way to open discussion about...

What's even better is that it is a good way to talk about issues like maturity and responsibility and what it really means to "grow up." It is also a great way to open discussion about illegal immigrants and related issues in an effort to evoke some understanding and tolerance. I love it and my students always love it.

5.0 out of 5 stars una pelicula carinosa y comica, May 15, 2006
A Kid's Review
This review is from: Sweet 15 (DVD)
I watched this movie for Spanish class because we were learning about a Mexican celebration called a Quinceanera. What I liked about the movie was that it is like real life problems. The actors didn't seem like they were reading right off a piece of paper. They had real emotions. Also the things Marta did seemed like real things that girls her age would do. My favorite part out of the whole movie was when Ramon did something very special for Marta at the very end. It was very touching. I didn't like that Ramon would just yell at Marta for any reason then is her friend again the next few minutes. Also it wasn't our style; it was a different style because the movie was done in 1990 so it makes it a little different. I still enjoyed the movie. I would recommend this movie to a Spanish class or families that want to learn about are learning about the Mexican culture.

5.0 out of 5 stars Show Sweet 15 to your Spanish I Classes!, February 10, 2004

I am a Spanish teacher in Florida, where Spanish is prevalent. We always show this video after presenting the "family" chapter. The clothing may be dated, Ramón may seem a little "old" for Marta, but other experiences lend a lot of validity to being a teenager, not just a "quinceañera". This video kept my students' attention, and that says a lot. They followed every conversation. They were especially involved in the dinner scene when Marta and her father had words. I could hear them talking about what their own father would have done.(smile) Not one of my students complained about it. They learned what "migra" meant, and they learned a bit about the harsh reality of being from Mexico and coming to the USA to make a living. One message was not to take so many things for granted.

i watched this movie, because my spanish teacher was teaching my class about the quinceanera.
The two major themes in this movie were: immigration, and quince.
one thing i liked about the movie was: the storyline. It was very "original" and involved a girl's birthday and a crush.
My favorite part of the movie was when ramon's pulled up to marta's house in a junky car, and the door fell off when he opened it for Marta. I liked it because it was funny.
In this movie, i didn't like that acting too much. It seemed too played out.
I would recommend this movie this movie to any spanish teacher trying to teach their class about quinceanaera, or the spanish heritage, because this movie teaches all about it.
one adjective that describes this movie is: "educational" but "so-so" because that is my feelings about it.

The male students in my high school Spanish classes love this movie as much as the girls do! It provides an excellent opportunity to discuss the cross-cultural adaptations that families encounter when they come to this country and raise their children in the American system. Excellent movie!

2.0 out of 5 stars O.K but critisism, May 15, 2006
A Kid's Review
This review is from: Sweet 15 (DVD)
I watched this movie, because it was part of what we were learning in spanish class. This movie was okay overall, but it's a little hard to rate when this isn't my type of style. I am a big critic when it come to movies so this wouldn't be my first choice, but again thos is okay for an educational movie . What caught my attention, is when Marta was not able to continue her plans have her quincinera, because her father was worried that the immagration would catch him, and send him back to Mexico. that was cool how the director set it up that ceated a lot of excitment. so it had a good story to it. My faveriate part is when Ramon was in the car and when he asked if Marta wanted to get in the door fell off.but this movie was good for who ever directed it.

We watched this movie so we can learn about a family with a quince to plan and some diffulculties. This movie is about Immigration, Family, and Relationships. I liked when Marta helped her dad. I also like when Marta gave Ramon inspiration on trying to read again. The movie was funny and touching. It was funny because Ramon's car door fell off. I didn't like when Romon was hitting on Marta because Ramon is too old for her. I will recommend a Spanish teacher to buy it for her class. I wouldn't buy it to just watch anytime. J.W.

I watched Sweet 15 in my high school Spanish class and loved it. The drama pulls you in and the plot twist keep you glued to the tv. I could not wait to find out if she got the party or the guy, but lets just say that this movie left me completly satisfied. A must see for any serious movie buff.
