4.0 out of 5 stars A good band, a good album...
I will admit it: I am a Nirvana fan, and I bought this album to see what Krist Novoselic (previously Nirvana's bass player) was doing now. I think it's kinda unfair to Sweet 75 that I only bought their album cos of this, but anyway...Sweet 75 are no more, they broke up after this album (no thanks to Geffen, btw!) - And it's a real pity. This is a really good album, there...

3.0 out of 5 stars Good Vocals...
This album is pretty easy on the ears. It's got great vocals by Yva Las Vegas, whose vocal stylings are reminiscent of Linda Perry. The catchy rock fueling Yvas vocals is not as crunchy as the Foos, but it is a refreshing change when a former band member has more talent and a different sound than the band that spawned him. 4.0 out of 5 stars A good band, a good album..., May 23, 1998

This is a really good album, there are some great songs on here. Krist shares the guitar and bass duties with his fellow band member, Yva Las Vegas, who sings on all the songs (and two of them in Spanish!). This is a very musically accomplished album, with a mix of various styles. Krist said he wanted to do something totally different from Nirvana, and he has, but then again, it's not a million miles distant from his previous band. A lot of the songs on the album have a clear grunge influence, and there are some nice grungy riffs. Yva has a beautiful, versatile and powerful voice. It's hard to define the album, but I found it refreshingly different and liked it a lot. I don't want to dwell on Nirvana, but as a comparison, I liked this album more than the second Foo Fighters album (The Colour And The Shape). Sweet 75's only other release is an Australian-only single ("Lay Me Down"). Personally, although I don't know too much about Sweet 75, I know that I liked them and I'm gonna miss 'em. Good luck to Yva and Krist in their next band projects...

5.0 out of 5 stars open your mind and give this album credit guys!, June 21, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Sweet 75 (Audio CD)
i just bought this cd a little while ago, i am the biggest nirvana fan and just held off for my own reasons, but not to dwell on nirvana cause we all know the 90's belong to them.

this album is a little mellow if your expecting the grunge sound. krist has expressed a different side of light here but holding on to his own gifts still. i really admire him for doing what he wanted and not what the typical person might have expected out of him. not to say this would be a let down by any means to a dedicated nirvana fan at all, just example, hearing trumpets, saxophones, percussions, accordions (which if you remember krist playing kurts accordion on mtv unplugged) nothing new and actually the first insturment krist learned how to play, so i think he is showing some of his original melodies here, like sleeping under the stars if you know what i mean.

anyways i think this album easily gets the full 5 stars without a dought, dont be closed minded and give a personal wack at this cause thats opposite of what its all about baby.

god bless kurdt and kurt.

for the two that opened the doors to a whole new light of music and light itself!

From the beginning of the first song (even before reading the credits) I knew Krist was playing a 12 string guitar.
This cd is very fun if you are thinking about getting it just do it you won't be disapointed!

5.0 out of 5 stars Differnt yet amazing, April 3, 2007
This review is from: Sweet 75 (Audio CD)
I bought this when I found out about the new band. I loved Nirvana and all the members, and was especially fond of the gangly bassist. I was not expecting anything like Nirvana, I knew that the album would be radically different. And so it was. Yet, it was equally amazing. No, don't buy it if you think you're getting another grungy, Nirvana-esque title, but if you appreciate music and the talent behind it, definitely check this album out, and as long as your mind is open to it, you won't be disapointed.

4.0 out of 5 stars your pain is nothing to me, July 18, 2005
This review is from: Sweet 75 (Audio CD)
I bought this CD several years ago when it came out and found its ambitions and directions inspiring. Yva Las Vegas's unusual and arresting vocal stylings don't fail to entertain, and the various musical styles on display here show the range, creativity and risk-taking that one never got to see in Krist Novoselic's previous incarnations.

I never get enough of the song "Oral Health" (I love the lyrics); get a kick out of "Ode to Dolly" (being a lifelong fan of the oft-underrated Dolly herself); find "La Vida" and "Lay Me Down" soothing.

No, this is probably not the album people expected, so it failed on a commercial level, but as far as expanding and exceeding expectation and daring to make something really original-- and indeed listenable-- this album does precisely that. Also I feel that many years after its initial release, this album is still fresh and current.
