3.0 out of 5 stars Women might find this amusing!
Not a man's book.
Very slow moving. The only real person is Zeke. Others are too stilted. Characters should be a bit more honest.

5.0 out of 5 stars Truly wonderful!, April 8, 2013
This review is from: Sweet Blessings (Kindle Edition)
Heath Murdock is a very, very broken man. Honestly, he could care less if he died - in fact, he'd welcomed it. Ever since the tragedy that took everything important to him, Heath has been in constant agony and pain. He left behind the life he once knew and became a loner traveling from one place to another, only stopping long enough to earn the money he'd need to keep himself alive. After all, though he'd turned away from God, he knew that killing himself was an abomination he wasn't willing to do.

When he walked into a family diner late one night for a hot meal, he never knew a blond haired single mom would be the cause for him to stay. When two drunks gave Amy and her sister a hard time, Heath found it his duty to step in and help out. Though he tried to leave the small town that tugged at this heart-strings several times, some unforeseen force just kept him there! And one thing he noticed: Amy had some issues from her past too - and a little boy who nearly broke his heart because of the memories he brought to the life he once had!

This is the first book in the second series of The McKaslin Clan. Amy and her sisters are cousins to the first group - five sisters who's stories were covered in the first series. This second group of siblings numbers four: Amy has two sisters and a brother.

This story was a bit depressing. Like I said above, Heath is a VERY broken man and the mood of the entire series is focused on his brokenness. If you can read this book with a smile, it will be surprising since the author left it pretty dark and bleak. But the circumstances of Heath's past were pretty depressing. I actually liked how the author left it that way until the very end. Sometimes you have to walk away from a situation completely and put your past to rest before you can see through the dark clouds. I think this was the case with Heath and I was very, very satisfied with the ending.

Being a librarian, I must comment on the library scene. It always drives me crazy when the author writes a stereo typical vision of a librarian (grey haired, very stern lady with glasses and a bleak, very quiet library). Libraries are anything but quiet now days. But then card catalogs and books being stamped are pretty much unheard of these days too, so I guess in this fictitious that's the way the people wanted it...I guarantee you, I'm not a grey-haired, stern librarian though I do live in a rural small town in Arkansas...

Great story....proves that appearances are not always what they seem. The McKaslin Clan series is totally captivating! I read most of the books in one sitting! Jillian Hart truly has a gift for fiction.
